DS was less than 2 weeks old last NYE (born 12/17) and we didn't go anywhere until he had his immunizations per the advice of our pediatrician. A cold might be manageable with an older baby but can be deadly to a newborn, wasn't worth the risk.

@MamaMoose: this.

My dad didn't want us out of the house until we were almost 3 mths old due to germs, etc.

I would probably go and make sure she doesn't get passed around. We went to a Memorial Day cookout when LO was almost 2 weeks old. By that time I was ready to be out of the house.

I'd stay back. I don't think I was recovered enough to attend a party at two weeks postpartum.

Being as it's the middle of winter and cold and flu season, I would NOT take your 2 week old to a party. We took DS to a wedding when he was 2 weeks old, but I wore him in the K'Tan the whole time, we didn't let anyone hold him, and it was the middle of August so not like colds and flu were rampant.

I would skip the party this year.

I don't think I'd go. I was a complete zombie at two weeks PP and hadn't even been out of my room. Plus, I think there's a risk in taking out such a new baby in a crowd of people...

No. I don't think I would take a baby to any public place or around more than one or two people until at least six weeks. Plus, I don't think I would be physically up to it that soon. You'll be tired and still adjusting. I don't think I would have fun.

@chopsuey119: I don't think I'd feel comfortable with having somebody watch her that early, even family. I am planning on finding a sitter around 6 weeks though, for another event.

@MaisyMay: that sounds like my idea of an ideal first trip out. My Dr said that nursing provides a ton of good antibodies and she should be fine in small doses.

If your feeling up to it I would go! I was still in a lot of pain and over exhausted at 2 weeks PP, but that's just my personal experience. If you are only going an hour or two that should be manageable!

Nope. Too many people. And who knows what kind of germs they could be carrying during cold and flu season. Our ped feels really strongly about this topic. Church was actually his prime example of where he always sees babies that he feels are too young to be out in public.

If you do decide to go I would suggest baby wearing and not letting anyone hold her rather than trusting people that they aren't sick.

@prettylizy: These are all people who've been super excited and encouraging about the pregnancy, and I was thinking it might be a really chill way to show her around. Plus, since it's in somebody's home, we'd all by comfy, and there would be a private place to nurse if necessary.

Depending on the crowd, I'd go. I brought Prettybaby to a baby shower when she was 6 days old. We only stayed for about 2 hours and she was sleeping in her carseat the entire time. It was fun to get out and introduce her to the world.

Some friends from church have a New Year's Eve party every year, and it's always a lot of fun. Mostly just board games, munchies, tv, and hanging out.
This year our LO will be less than 2 weeks old at NYE, but I'm still thinking about going, if we feel up to it. We would stay all night, probably only an hour or two at the most, and if anybody had a cold we would ask that they not hold her. It would be our first chance to introduce LO to our church family.

If you felt like it, would you go to a party with a newborn?
