@QBbride: thanks! Fx I can catch this mythical post cp/mc fertility boost. Officially got opk last night 3 days later than usual and are definitely trying. I'll just have to "oops" the dr if it happens haha. Decided I'd rather try and risk second loss or bfn than not try.

I would absolutely ignore that advice if you feel ready both physically and mentally. I had an early m/c and my midwife told me there was no reason to wait except for dating purposes (and if I felt emotionally ready), but I could always choose to get a dating u/s if I wanted. Sooo I went for it and got pregnant! I usually ovulated around day 14 (give or take a couple days) and I ovulated 1 week later (around CD 21) post-m/c and got pregnant that cycle. Good luck!!

I'm thinking we will try. Now if I can only ovulate. Supposed to be today (but no sign of it) and historically have had super super reg periods until this first cycle post cp of course.

My midwife told me there was no real reason to wait after an early loss, it's just for dating purposes. I did wait after my 12 week d&c as recommended, but if I remember correctly, ds2 was conceived the month after I had a 5 week cp.

I’m holding my 3 week old who was conceived the cycle after a chemical. We tried the better part of a year and that’s when things finally worked. I did take time off after my d&e and felt that was necessary for healing but after the 5 week loss I didn’t feel I needed it for physical or emotional healing.

I was in this situation after an early miscarriage and I decided not to wait. The OB suggested waiting and I pressed her whether it was biologically necessary and she finally said "probably not" but more an emotional and dating recommendation, I think.

We did try the next cycle and looking back I definitely would have waited. I was a little obsessive about the cycle and I either had a chemical that cycle or a false positive test (it wasn't a glaring positive, but enough to give me hope). We got pregnant with DD2 the cycle after that one. It definitely wasn't worth the agony it caused me, but I do understand exactly how you say you're feeling

After my D&C, I was told I could try again after my first period. I did and got pregnant with my daughter (& I had been trying for 14 months before getting pregnant with her so maybe there is something to that increased fertility post-loss thing).

Didn’t read all the other replies but I had a 5.5 week loss and my ob also told me to wait a full cycle before trying again—I got the courage to disobey her from another hb mama named Anya who I recall ignored the same advice and conceived her daughter. So I ignored it too and conceived my son about 2.5 weeks after passing the miscarriage tissue. When I called my ob with the new pregnancy she was like, “I thought we were waiting a cycle”. But I didn’t get sent to the principals office. If I was coming off a d&c I would definitely wait, but a chemical just feels like a waste of a cycle not to try.

I had a miscarriage just before 7 weeks. I saw my OB just over a week later at what was supposed to be our 8-week HB appointment. We'd done an ultrasound and saw all tissue had cleared by that point. He told me the old advice he learned in med school was to advise me to wait 3 months, but he didn't seen any medical reason to do so. He said we "could" wait out a full cycle, but that is mostly to help an OB accurately date the new pregnancy. He told us to go right ahead whenever we felt ready. I took a further 3+ weeks for all the HCG to leave my body from the miscarriage. My first ovulatory cycle we very fortunately conceived, and I'm 18 weeks now.

Prior to this loss, I had a previous successful pregnancy and we did not believe I had an underlying hormonal issue, so we felt confident going ahead. I think it's a personal decision, but I'm *so* glad my OB studied the current data and encouraged us, because we're hoping our rainbow will be joining us in about 22 weeks. Best wishes to you-I am so sorry for your loss.

We were advised to wait 1-2 cycles after our missed miscarriage last year ago but the OBGYN also said that it wasn’t the end of the world if we didn’t and that it wouldn’t be a big issue if we did fall pregnant straight after. As it was we ended up waiting for logistical reasons (we had a wedding to attend) but I did also lose a lot of blood so waiting gave me a chance to get my iron levels back on track and just gain some space and distance from the miscarriage.

My first OB told me to wait 6 months after a 7-wk miscarriage. ummmm nope, that's not current medical guidelines. So yeah, I ignored her advice, found a new OB, and TTC after one cycle.

My 2nd OB told me to not use OPKs because they're not easy to interpret and they mess with your head and people miss out on the days before the positive OPK. I used them anyway.

My 2nd OB also prescribed Clomid for days 1-5 and I didn't find a lot of research supporting that so I did days 2-6.

I got this advice after my MMC with a D&c. Ignored it and had a CP. Ignored the advice to wait and now have a 2 year old. I think it is fine to ignore if you know your mental state. Pregnancy after a loss is hard. But I knew it was far better for me not to wait.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that there's no medical reason to wait after a MC.

Sure it works out for some people and they have a surge of fertility after loss...but for many, their cycles can be out of whack for several cycles. To me, that points to hormonal issues.

So if it was a hormonal issue that caused the loss in the first place, you could be risking another loss by not waiting for your cycles to go back to normal.

There is no medical reason to wait (unless it’s an ectopic or something). I didn’t wait after my mc, and I wouldn’t wait if I were you, and you felt ok to try again.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Im sureprised how many would wait! Prior to experiencing this all I had ever heard was about people trying the cycle immediately after. If we do wait I think we are going to wait two cycles to avoid a possible december due date. 😕 seems so far away but of course want to do what is best. Its just that ivr had friends whose physicians have said there is no reason to wait after an early, natural miscarriage.

When I was seeing an RE, they would not do another treatment cycle right after a cp. But they also did not tell us to prevent. I had a d&c at 11w last year and my OB told me we could try as soon as we felt ready, that waiting is mostly about them having a good LMP date, and the emotional piece. So while we never waited to try I also wasn’t advised to. I did sometimes take longer to ovulate post loss. But except for the d&c not more than a week off I think.

I’ve had 4 earlier losses and had different experiences. My first baby was conceived on the heels on one of them, the next month. Most times I did not conceive again right away, it just took time. I understand the desperation to be pregnant again!

@FoolsintheRain: From what I have read, there really is no reason to wait to try, especially if you miscarried naturally as opposed to a D&C, but I chose to wait one cycle both times. I will say, that giving your body, heart, and mind a little bit of time to heal is never a bad thing. Pregnancy is rough and having one back to back with another can be overwhelming, but everyone is different. So, this is some repeat from your other thread but I will share my experience: My first time TTC, I got pregnant and had a CP. It was so early that I only missed my period by a day or so. I wasn't under the care of a doctor, so I just took a month off. The next month, I got pregnant but it was a blighted ovum that was diagnosed at 10.5 weeks and ended in a D&C. I took the next cycle off and got pregnant the next with my son. My doctor was upset with me because she told me to take 6 months off. I thought that was way too long and did lots of research to find that one cycle really does the trick to build up your uterine lining (especially after a D&C.) That pregnancy resulted in my LO. So, I would say that a month is enough but you don't need to do much more than that. Sorry this is so rambly!

I haven't been in your position, but I would heed the advise of the doctor. They are the ones who have gone to school for years and know what they are talking about, not us. I would blame myself if I got pregnant after not listening to the dr if I lost the baby. Waiting one month isn't that big of a deal.

I took a month off after my cp as recommended by my doctor. If I had gotten pregnant and miscarried again I would have blamed myself and it wouldn’t have been a healthy situation. If I have questions about my doctor’s advice I address them with her until we agree to a plan of action. I would not be comfortable making a decision on my own against my doctor’s advice. That’s why I have a doctor, she’s the medical professional with the knowledge I don’t have.

Didn't have any bloodwork or an ultrasound to make sure all is passed but bleeding stopped 2 weeks ago and hpt is torally neg. Im using opks and hoping to o soon. Want to try this cycle but yesterday my dr said to wait a cycle. I didnt push it but dont really think there is a solid reason why. Thinking about trying anyways. Really wanting to be preg and hoping to catch this mythical post loss fertility spike. Wwyd? Have you gone against medical advice?
