I live almost 4 hours from the nearest major airport, 2 1/2 hours from a "regional" airport. Almost all travel for us ends up being at least 10 hours, usually closer to 12 by the time you add road and air time. And that's just to get to, like, Baltimore. I would do 16 hours in a heartbeat for Aruba. That being said, the 12a-6a layover would kill me and I would absolutely be checking for any possible alternatives between now and then! I wouldn't worry about being robbed in the airport. I've slept both inside and outside security in several airports around the world, and never had an issue. That was mainly back in my early to mid-twenties when I couldn't afford a lounge pass. I was also traveling by myself. I just made sure to loop arms around my valuables and/or sleep curled up around them. Lounges do make things more comfortable, though, and there are sometimes showers and lockers that you can make use of. I'm not sure what there is in Boston, but it's worth looking into.</p> <p>ETA: DH and I once did a 12-hr layover in Hong Kong (at night) and the lounge, which had showers, sleeping rooms, and a "free" seated back massage was a godsend! It has never even crossed my mind. You will be fine!</p> <p>Check with your credit card company, you might be entitled to entry into one of the lounges. I know with my husband's card he gets into all of the star alliance lounges for free. It's worth a shot!</p> <p>I would probably still do the trip. If it was something I wasn't really looking forward to, to begin with then maybe I would back out, but other than that I would just deal with it. Too many layovers get snow delays. That would be awful on top of the already bad sounding schedule. </p>
