@MamaMoose: Agreed- I think parents of kids with food allergies put a lot of thought into what makes for a safe outing for their kid(s)! I don't think any parent of a child with a "if there is a peanut particle on the floor the child could have an anaphylactic reaction" allergy is going to just assume that my house is ok. If they agree to a play date, I assume that we will discuss restrictions but that their child does not need a totally sterile environment (because the average house of a young child is almost never going to be a sterile environment).

I would trust the parents to make the best decision for their child. I assume if their child is so severly allergic to something that they can't even be in the same room, the parent probably wouldn't send the child on play dates outside their home. If the parent felt comfortable, I would trust their judgement and just ask that they send their child along with enough food prepared for the time they will be at my house.

Yes, but I would expect that the parent explain very clearly what is safe for their kids to consume.

As someone with a limited food diet, I'd be sad if no one invited me over to play! I would, but ask the parent if they're going to be OK in an environment with PB, if they ever try to pull one over to get a forbidden snack, and maybe just have them play outside.

I would if they brought their own snacks and the parents were comfortable. I would be quite worried about the severely allergic to nuts kids though as I would worry that we could cause a second hand reaction. That's coming more from concern for the child - I know personally that even non life threatening allergic reactions are horrendous to experience.

Depends on what you mean by "Severe". Severe for some means they can't even be around that food. I don't know if I could rid my house of all one product for a "play date"......
Unless it's someone that's a regular part of our life.

Some kids with peanut allergies can't even be IN a space that has products with peanuts in it.

Honestly I wouldn't feel comfortable at this age. I hand LO food and I've found it tucked into her toys sometimes. Unless I had time to do a super clean I'd be very very hesitant.

I would, as long as the parents felt comfortable with it. And I'd ask for suggestions for snacks.

If Mom or Dad packed food then yes - assuming nothing in the air would affect them (we eat a lot of allergens here..)

My LO has severe food allergies and we go to and host playdates all the time. I think you'll find that most moms of kids with food allergies come prepared. I never rely on the host-provided snacks/food cause like you said, it's tough to stay on top of allergy do's and don'ts if you don't have them yourself.

I would but I would make absolute sure what that kid could/could not eat. It's pretty stressful, though.

Yes, but I would ask for a list of acceptable foods for the child to eat and also ask if there are any special instructions regarding the prep of the food like needing to use separate utensils. I think I would be more likely to host a child with food allergies when I would only have to provide a snack versus a whole meal just to be on the safe side. And, the snack would probably be something store bought.

This is a tough one! I would of course not want to ostracize someone just for being allergic to stuff. But it would also be really stressful for me to host someone when I'm not that informed on food allergies.

I would probably just host the kid and ask the parent to bring any food for both kids. That way, I wouldn't have to stress about potentially killing someone's kid!!
