When I put my initials on something, I usually only use those two, so in his case he'd be fine. This is coming from someone whose FIL's first name is actually B.J. which totally makes me cringe. He is so hilariously unaware/naive about it too. He even got my MIL a surprise vanity plate for her car that says "BJSLOVE" ("B.J's love"). We went back and forth on it for a while before she was born, but I loved the first name so much, and the J name is for DH's grandmother, and it was very important to him that DD have her name. As others have said, since it's the middle name and not first/last name, I'm hoping it won't be that big of a deal. However, I think, as previous replies have said, that first/middle combo is less of a big deal than first/last or first/middle/last. I think it is ultimately what you are comfortable with. I don't think the first/middle combo would be a dealbreaker for me.
