My friend is a midwife and I have asked her to be present at our birth if at all possible. I'm willing to bet a friend would also be able to offer a more affordable rate. </p> <p>We're opting out of hiring a doula because our insurance deductible is already quite high, and we can't justify the cost (they're quite expensive in our area, unfortunately). She needs to act as a student doula for several births to complete her hours. I am thinking of letting her attend ours. She has been my biggest supporter in learning about natural birth. I think she'd be great! Would you ever let a friend act as your doula? </p>
