I graduated grad school at 13w pregnant and everyone encouraged me to go job hunting but I didn't because it seemed unlogical to seek a position only to take my mat leave sick days and vacation days all at once only 5 months in. So, I didn't expect people to hire me and I don't think it'd hire someone either (for my job). If I knew they were pregnant I would have doubts such as if they would really come back after having the baby, having to hire someone to cover them whilst they are gone, if they will really be able to work full capacity at a new job while pregnant.<br /> Everytime you hire a new person it takes them a while to get into the swing of how things work even if they have had similar job roles before, so now factoring in a pregnancy plus time off, it would be a gamble that I might not be willing to take. If I'm hiring someone that I expect may well be with the company for a decade or more, pregnancy isn't such a big deal, and any employee with the company for a long time is likely to- at some point- require special time off or special treatment.<br /> If I didn't have an expectation that the person would be a worthwhile long-term investment (either because the job in question wasn't long-term, or because the person wasn't so great), then I would definitely prefer to hire someone without those special needs in the near future. </p> https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/would-you-hire-someone-who-was-pregnant#post-300360 Tue, 18 Sep 2012 17:33:08 +0000 marionberry 300360@https://boards.hellobee.com/ <p>I'm not in a position to hire anyone, but as someone who is about to get pregnant, I think about it often, in relation to whether I would switch jobs. I would think an employer would be hesitant to hire someone who was pregnant unless they were extremely qualified and seemed like someone who'd stick around afterward.
