We've done it in hawaii a couple of times for about 2 hours each time to play 9 holes of golf. One was at a golf resort and another at a very family friendly hotel. The sitter came to our room but I think LO(s) was asleep through most of it. We also use the day care when we go to whistler,bc. They have a very established child care facility so we weren't too worried there.

@hilsy85: we literally just booked a trip to a resort with a daycare and nanny options included in the price. I plan on leaving her there for a few hours (maybe not every day) but will check it out first. Like spend an hour there before I leave on the first day and then pop by unexpectedly. I read a lot of reviews and they were positive. I'd do the daycare v nanny because there are more eyes.

@hilsy85: I think I would stop by and see what the daycare setting is like - how many kids, ages, number of caregivers, etc. if you don't feel right about it, maybe ask of you could meet with one of the nannies. I'm pretty laid back in general, but I just don't think I would be that nervous about leaving my child there for a short time. Maybe it's different bc I have a number of friends who go to a resort and leave their kids with childcare there. Some of the caregivers even end up in the families' Facebook photos and I've never hear anything but positive things about their experiences.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing that with a kid youn enough who couldn't communicate clearly what they needed or wanted. I don't know why that's my threshold but it is!

When I was 8 and my brother was 1 my parents left us with a resort babysitter when they attended a gala event on the property for my mother's work. Clearly, I was walking, talking and very capable myself, but the babysitter wasn't bad. She was an older mom type that took care of my bro- diaper changes and he was a but sick that weekend. We happily played Barbies together.

Babysitting is a service resorts provide and I would be perfectly fine using their sitter.

@hilsy85: haha I'm not sure! Ideally word of mouth from someone I knew who went there, but that isn't always possible. I guess online reviews, in terms of selecting the resort, then go and visit the day care for a little bit, see if your Lo could play for a while with you there observing? I think getting a feel for it would help me feel more comfortable.

My family used to go to the resort that I also worked at and they heard of it through my dad's coworker so they already trusted it, but now I'm realizing they left my sister, who was under a year old, with a high school or college age girl they just met. Now that I have an infant that sounds crazy to me!

@MamaMoose: @Zbug: @Foodnerd81: when you say check out...how would you check it out? Like ask the resort questions? Or spend time at the daycare before leaving LO? It says all the sitters/ppl at the daycare are CPR certified, trained, etc...

@Anagram: I looked at the FDR resort :) I love that nanny program (seems to be common in Jamaica!).

I would if it was a nice resort that specialized in families and child care. Club Med, for example, is super well known for their baby and kid programs... The other one I've heard if is the Franklin D resort in Jamaica. It's a family resort and They automatically assign a nanny to every family with kids. The nanny is the same every day and you decide what their duties are, so you could have them build sandcastles with your LO while you snooze on a sun lounger 5 ft away, or if you have 2 LOs, they can watch one kid nap in the room while you take the other swimming. Of course, once you get to know the nanny, you and you SO can leave the kids and go to dinner or diving or whatever.

The nanny program there has great reviews, so I would feel fine using them after I got to know my particular nanny.

What I like about these resorts is that YOU as a mommy get a vacation, too. Otherwise, you're just relocating somewhere sunny while you sit in the room watching your LO nap, and are stuck in you room by. 7 pm every night for you LOs bedtime.

I've been researching Caribbean vacas with childcare lately. Just for future reference ! Check out all the Club Meds, too. They are pricey, but they have baby programs as well.

It would depend on the place and how old Lo was. I used to work at a resort in the us that had kids programs and one on one sitters for the babies and I would absolutely trust something like that, but I'd research extensively before booking.

I think I would prefer a daycare center type thing to a private nanny in the hotel room, since there would be more people around, therefore more accountability. But I'd want to go someplace that really specialized in the kids programs.

I have mixed feelings about it. But, I've left DS at the Y childcare before.

I would assume that the hotel would only hire very qualified people for that job. But, I also would want to meet and spend some time in there, before I decide to leave my kid in there (rather than dropping off and going!)

It would probably also depend on how many kids are already in there.

If you went to a resort (beachy Caribbean type) would you feel comfortable leaving your toddler with a nanny or at a kids' club/daycare type place there? LO is 14 months and if we do end up going on the trip we are planning, I feel like I would want to leave him for a an hour or two a day so dh and I can enjoy other activities (snorkeling, diving, etc).

I am thinking I feel comfortable with it but I've never left LO with anyone but my parents or in-laws, so I don't know...

Also do you think you would prefer a nanny hired by the hotel, or a full daycare type center that the hotel has?
