We wrestled with this with our first, and finally just moved a little potty into the bedroom. If he wanted to go, then he could go right there... so he didn't get a trip out of his room in exchange for crying. I remember it helping some! We also started sitting him on the potty before and after baths, so that he didn't have as much of a need to go.

@Mamaof2: what about transitioning her to a toddler bed or a twin? That way if she truly has to go, she can get up. It might be a stall tactic but you don't want her to regress with potty training either

She is still in diapers at bedtime so if she pees it would be fine

i don't have experience but i have heard of asking to go to the bathroom as a bedtime stalling tactic. i lean towards what @NovBaby1112: suggested, in having her potty for bed and allowing one other time, but telling her in advance that after the "freebie" that it will be bedtime, and she can go to the potty in the morning.

in case she ends up having accidents, is she drinking a lot of fluid in the evening?

on the upside, that's great that she's showing interest in the potty!

My niece is 3.5 years and does this as well. Even if she goes right before bed, she will say she has to go potty as soon as she is in bed. and most of the time she goes again! Maybe you could get her one time and let her go, but then say that its bedtime now for the other times she asks?

DD is 2 months shy of 3 - still in a crib - finally showing some interest in the potty.

At bedtime she cries that she has to potty - we have been going to her 2-4 times - I'm just done at this point - some times she pees sometime she doesn't. Sometimes she says she has to poop.

My DH thinks that since she is laying down while crying and saying she has to use the potty its a stall tactic and that if she truly had to go she would be standing up or sitting up saying it - I kinda agree but I also don't want to deny the potty if she really has to go!

Thoughts?

WWYD?
