Yes, they took the incident seriously and handled it appropriately. Despite all the background checks in the world, a bad seed will occasionally get through.

I commend the center on being quick to follow protocol, and wouldn't worry, if I were you. Lunatics can slip through the cracks *anywhere*, so there's no use in being weary of the center itself, especially since they handled everything perfectly.

Well, I'll give you an example from something that happened recently. A toddler was left outside at our daycare after some outside play time. It appears that the teachers were just very busy, and didn't count properly. The daycare director notified us immediately (as in, that day before 5pm), notified the licensing board, and has had two inspections since.

As uncomfortable and nervous as the situation made me feel, the director's reaction and the steps she took were the only reason I didn't yank her out of there. Now, had it been a physical issue, I would have had to have a talk with the director to be reassured.

I would suggest calling up, mentioning what you found, and discussing it with the director. The way he/she responds to your questioning will give you a really good idea of whether or not you want your kid there. Unfortunately, bad things happen, but it's the way places respond and fix them that I really look at.

I would still consider them. I would maybe ask about what other employee professional development/stress management has been impleted since they to make sure they don't have other teachers feeling the same way.

Honestly, I think its fantastic that they responded the way that the did. Often childcare centers will try to cover up incidents like this, to protect their image. This would make me more likely to choose them! Unfortunately there will always be risks and bad people in the world. The fact that this childcare responded so appropriately, demonstrates that they will do their best to keep your kiddo safe.

Dh and I have been touring daycares, and we found one that we felt good about and is willing to be super flexible with us as far as her starting FT until we find a nanny, and then going PT once we find a nanny - agreeing to whatever mix of days work best for us.

We discussed it at length and I was fully prepared to enroll LO, and then after doing some more random googling for reviews (all of the reviews I read previously were very positive), I happened upon a news article about this daycare having an incident where a daycare worker popped a 4 yr old in the mouth (obvs there is not supposed to be any hitting or spanking AT ALL), and hit her hard enough that her lip bled. The daycare promptly contacted the parents and DSS, and they fired the worker immediately. They alerted all parents immediately of the situation. I read a statement from the daycare saying that they run background checks on every employee and pride themselves on safety. What bothers me the most is that it was pretty recent, July of this year. I feel like they did everything they were supposed to do, and ultimately this bad person was fired, is gone, and faces criminal charges so that it WILL show up on her next background check. I know this person could have technically ended up anywhere. But, I'm still hesitating....

The only other day care we really liked has a wait list.

Would you still go with a daycare that had a similar incident if they acted accordingly?
