I didnt have twins but I tend to deliver early. DS was 34 weeks exactly and DD was 37 weeks exactly. I think it depends how your pregnancy is going. I wouldn't want him traveling past 30 weeks.

My twins made an early arrival at 26 weeks, and once I went into legit labor... It only took four hours. So I would say that's cutting it close. Definitely get travel insurance, and perhaps make sure a friend or family member might be able to help you out, should you need it while he 's gone.

@bluestriped bee: I thought I was perfectly fine. I was walking, working, my cervix was closed tight no problems. All my drs kept commenting on how well i was carrying the babies and i felt good about it. 29 weeks 1 day just went into labor. They stopped it and i ended up delivering babies at 30 weeks exactly. So with other twin mamas that were fine at 30 i was the one that is the possibility of ptl. So definitely get travel insurance if u buy a ticket for him

@meganmp: I assumed she wouldn't. I didn't specifically ask though. Also the thought of being that pregnant on a 5-6 hr flight doesn't sound like fun.

As long as I was't having any complications I would be fine with it! I am one who loves my solo time though - My hubby even went on backcountry hiking trips (2-3 days with no communication) in the 3rd tri with both of my pregnancies (and I had PIH and was off work with my first)

@bluestriped bee: For me personally, I was totally fine at 30 weeks, and was still teaching. If you're comfortable having him go, I'd send him on his way. Will your OB not let you go at that point?

DH had to fly home for a funeral when I was about 28 or 29 weeks. I was fine by myself, but I was definitely anxious until he got home in case something were to happen. I just used the few days to rest as much as possible and not strain myself.

Do you have kids already? If not, you could make the decision closer to the date, as others have said. But if I had kids at home, I would have a problem with him going! :silly:

@bluestriped bee: I think it's important to mention that you and I are having very different pregnancy experiences  I saw you're going to Cabo, which I think is so great, and overall, I just really struggled with anxiety. I think if at 29 weeks, everything is good (cervix is long/closed, no contractions, etc) then the reality of him going is that everything will be totally fine!

@Truth Bombs: Thanks! I'll check out southwest airlines. The bride and groom both know that we are expecting twins. Since my DH was surprised how early the twins might come, I'm sure he will have to tell the groom. If not, I'll remind him to tell the groom.

Since he's in the wedding party I would definitely want him to attend if at all possible. I would have him book on Southwest since you get a full credit for the amount if you cancel up to 10 minutes before the flight, and just make sure you let the groom know that there is always the possibilty he will have to bow out if your risk of pre term labor goes up.

I would book a ticket for him but get travel insurance so that he can make the final decision once it gets closer. There's no predicting PTL, you can be fine one day and go into labor the next with no warning signs.
I know that I was anxious enough during my pregnancy that I would not have wanted my DH to go on a trip like that. I didn't even want him to drive to NJ to play golf!
I think it's really going to come down to how you feel once you get closer. Physically, I was fine, still walking the dog and able to get around on public transportation but mentally, I would have freaked out not having him home.

@twodoghouse: Thanks for posting and letting me know how you felt. That helps a lot. Yes, they have been measuring my cervix. At my last appointment (on Wednesday) they saw some shortening of the cervix. My OB is letting the MFM know to see if they are concerned at this point. Right now, I'm trying not to be too worried since the OB wasn't. If I have to see the MFM and if they are worried, then I'll worry. ;)

DH did panic when the OB mentioned that the babies could be here before September.

I would wait a while and see how you're feeling. At 16 weeks I was still totally fine. By 24 I was really starting to drag. I didn't have energy to take the dog out, do laundry, cook for myself, etc. By 28 weeks the walk from the parking lot into work would wear me out for the whole day. I was in constant pain and starting to swell. (Not to freak you out or anything! I went all the way to 38 weeks, but things get hard quickly in a twin pregnancy!) Are you having your cervix measured regularly? As long as your cervix is nice and long, your BP is fine, and the babies are in good shape, there's probably not too much to worry about. If you can get away with taking it really easy while he's gone, you'll probably be fine! I would just want to wait a while longer before making the decision.

Is he in the wedding? Or just attending? I'd try to be flexible and encourage him to go if he was in the wedding or if it was a best friend/family member. If not, I'd err on the more conservative side and ask him not to. I delivered our DS at 34 weeks so I'd be nervous about delivering earlier with twins.

So for those of you who have had multiples, would you let your DH go to a wedding across the country (5-6 hr flight) when you are 30 weeks pregnant with twins? He would probably be gone for 3-4 days.

I know these babies could arrive at anytime and we'll have to be flexible in case anything happens from now until then.

We told the OB about this trip and she said we'll have to be flexible and decide closer to the trip.

We don't have any family nearby but we do have friends that could check on me while he is away.

I kind of want him to go. If something happens, we could pay for a last minute plane ticket for him to come back.

Am I being too laid back about this trip? Haha.

Oh, DH is part of the wedding party.

I'll also add that I'm a bit jealous that I can't go. It's in Boston and it's a greek wedding. We are hearing from the groom how expensive everything is. One of the venues they looked at had a $72K minimum! (Yes, $72K MINIMUM) This would have been the most expensive wedding I've been, too. It would have been nice to be there. It's okay. I'll see pictures.
