I don't co-sleep but I would let my mom co-sleep with my LO if they slept on the floor. She did when LO was a newborn. I would never let her co-sleep on a bed.

My mom's been talking about co-sleeping with LO when we visit. I haven't said anything about it because I know she doesn't really want to do it and when she realizes how wiggly LO is, she's going to be too scared to even try. Plus her bed is really high up with ceramic floors underneath. I figure she'll realize as soon as we get there and forget all about it.

If not, I'll explain in detail why it's not a good idea.

I agree with PPs, I would be upset if it were deliberate. And even if they were cuddling or playing and knocked out by accident, I'd want to talk to her about risks and how that could be dangerous, etc. I co-bed but I'm fully aware of her and her safety.

No way. I co-sleep but I am a very light sleeper, I keep blankets and pillows away and I hold my daughter so I can see her breathing. I know that no one will be as careful as I am. I don't even trust my husband to co-sleep since he can sleep through everything.

Definitely talk to her about it. 5 months is just too little. I am not even comfortable with it as they as older, co-sleeping should just be for parents, in my opinion.

No...not only the safety issues that people said above, but it's kinda of a territorial reaction for me.

My MIL was watching my son, who was 4 at the time, and asked him if he wanted to sleep with her, and he said no, just cause he loves his bed. I was weirded out about it, though. She doesn't have to be next to him every second he's with her, especially for sleeping.

But, like I said above, it's territorial for me. If I'm not sleeping next to him, no one is, lol.

We don't co-sleep, but I think I would be okay with it. That said, as others have noted, it's certainly a personal decision. So if you are not comfortable, you should definitely say something.

No, and I'm pro co-sleeping!
I would want this to be something we had first discussed, to make sure they were following the rules of safe co-bedding.
I would be very upset if I found my baby in a bed with pillows, comforter, etc and no one watching her.

Also, I wouldn't mind my mom co-sleeping with my LO (if following safety standards) because she's a light sleeper, but I wouldn't want my dad to because I know he's a very heavy sleeper.

No!
But then again, we do not believe in co-sleeping whatsoever.
Even if I did trust myself, I wouldn't trust anyone else. Especially if they have pillows, comforter...

I wouldn't be upset though that she has done this. She probably thought nothing of it. I'd just tell her nicely:) It is really not too much to ask. Or I'd have DH tell her, actually.

I think if just depends on the situatuion for each family. I would not want my parents co-sleeping with LO. My dad is a big guy and he is a heavy sleeper who has been known to roll over and twack my mom with a flailing arm on more than one occasion. That to me is not a secure place for LO! lol!

I cosleep with my son and I wouldn't be comfortable with this either because I know my mom is a REALLY heavy sleeper. However - she DID let my cosleep with my baby sister when I was 15.. and she never had a fit. I DO trust my mom though...

Now that Cobi is so much older I'd be totally fine with it... but she wouldn't be able to get him to sleep with her haha...

Also my sister let me sleep with my nephew when I watched him, and I coslept with almost all my nanny kids.. sooo idk I guess I'd have to be in the position to know what I'd want. But I totally understand both sides!!!

My mom co-beds with P when she stays over. I know my mom is also a really light sleeper though and wakes periodically through the night all on her own.

Like @yoursilverlining: said though, if you're not comfortable with it then just say something. Maybe go through the "rules" of safe co-bedding or just ask that she not do so.

I wouldn't like it at all! I'm not even sure if I'd be comfortable with ME co-bedding, and everything I read says the parents, especially the mother, is especially attuned to LO and their breathing, etc-- to the point that I see recommendations for the baby to sleep on the mother's side, rather than in between since even the dad isn't as connected. (I've done very little real research on the topic though!)

I'd bring it up with her but broach more like you are concerned about sleep habits and not messing with the habits (crib/bassinet) that your LO is used to. Also mention the unsafe things, like pillows, etc, but this way you aren't insinuating that she doesn't know what is safe or how to take care of a baby, but that your baby has a routine.

Not in a bed, no I would not be okay with this. dozing asleep on the couch is one thing, but an extended period I would freak out.

Although, we are not cosleepers, and I'm not a fan of it to begin with, just not worth the risk in my mind.

We co-sleep and when my parents babysat LO overnight I asked them if they would co-sleep too. I told them they definitely didn't have to co-sleep if they were uncomfortable with it; but that LO sleeps better when you co-sleep.

When my MIL is over she co-sleeps with LO for naps.

Would you let your LO co-sleep (co-bed) for naps with Grandparents? My LO is 5 months old and is being watched by my MIL who is visiting us. I just started work and came home one evening to find them both asleep in my MIL's room. I was not too thrilled with this especially since we didn't discuss this and I don't know if MIL is being safe with her co-sleeping (keeping pillows, blankets, etc. away from LO's face).

I feel really uneasy with this but am I just overreacting? Would you allow your LO to co-sleep with Grandparents? If not, how should I discuss this with her?
