How funny to see this thread revived!
My baby came early - I went into labor 10 days before my due date - so the question of the scheduled C on his brother's birthday was moot (I think I had decided to schedule it a couple days before his bro's birthday). The baby's birthday ended up being 6 days before his brother's, so they can celebrate on consecutive weekends.

@T.H.O.U. - good luck!

No, I'd like for them each to have their own special day. Joint parties are fine, but a separate day devoted to each is what I would prefer.

My dad and his second sister share a birthday. They are two years apart. It didn't seem to phase them. Personally, for me I am so happy that I don't share the same birthday as my brother. Although at this point my mom celebrates both of our bdays at the same time when she can. Our bdays are 18 days apart in the same month.

@leeenie: What did you end up deciding?

@jedeve: This is now our issue. On one hand its good that we will have all three born in August but I still would like them to be a few days apart so they could have their own special day at least (even if they end up having a joint birthday).

Are you going to be done having kids? Do you have any others? I think if you just have two, sharing might not be a big deal. If they saw a third getting their own day, it might make it harder.

One of my friends shared her birthday with her sister. They were six years apart and the older sister thought it was so cool.

I think the tough thing about having them close is one birthday would always be second. After everyone already had cake and party and presents and all. It might be exhausting for you to always make both special.

Not trying to make things more confusing, but just saying if you do have them on the same day their can be some positives!

@leeenie: I have twins, too, so it obviously can't bother me too much, but I think as a general rule, it's probably nice for each kid to have their own "special" day that's all their own even if they have shared parties when they're little. Whatever you end up deciding, good luck with your new LO!

My daughters birthday is tomorrow, and it's possible I could have our second baby by then. I started out thinking it would suck for her, but I'm starting to come around to the idea, and I think it would be a neat thing for them to share, especially since they're both girls.

I had a pair of brothers that had the same birthday, 1 year apart, and they HATED it. Possibly because their mother didn't do it well (made them share a cake), but still...

Wow, thanks for all the responses! I'm honored so many of you chimed in, including Hellobee regulars and bloggers.

While being in the hospital on my oldest's birthday is a consideration, it may be hard to avoid (and will only be a one-time event). His birthday is on a Thursday, which is when my doctor is on call. So the only day I could get a C-section and be back for his birthday (but not in any type of energetic or celebratory state, anyway) is Monday. Maybe Tuesday depending how my recovery is. Friday is not so good for a delivery date because it's the recent anniversary of a close family member's death.

Sounds like most of you think it would be better to have 2 different birthdays, if possible. I can understand that - having one day a year to focus on the one child and make them feel special, even if parties are joint.

I knew a family with 4 girls and they all had the same birthday (triplets born on big sis's birthday). I don't know how they feel/felt about it, but it was definitely interesting! I personally think I'd prefer my own day.

I was 5 days from my brother and we were just used to it. more work for my mom for sure though, we each got parties and cake in that short time period! (and my dad was in the middle of those 5 days . . . yikes)

I would try have them a day or so apart if you can, just so they get to pick out their favourites on that day. And as pp have said, so you don't have to be in hospital on LO's birthday. But if you have no choice I'm sure they will get used to it and love it when they are older.

My kids are born in the same month 2 weeks apart and I already feel a little bad for them. Joint parties are fun when they are young though but itll be harder when they are older and want to do separate things I think not to mention the cost of 2 birthdays in a 2 week span so if I were you Id try to spread it a little apart for their sakes

I'm a twin and I LOVE sharing my birthday. Ours is February 15th so we often could not have chocolate cake like I sometimes wanted because we never could say no to the Valentine's chocolate. She had a mild allergy to too much of it and would get a migraine from too much. I never minded giving up the opportunity for a chocolate cake :)

It was often fun to pick out a theme we both liked.

My parents sometimes agonized over gifts that differed only slightly in color- FrogTwin and I NEVER argued though, that I'm aware of- we always chose one and loved it, and it was perfect.

We are/were very close though. In high school I met a pair of twins who seemed t absolutely hate each other. I never understood it all at, and it hurt my heart to see them bickering with each other all the time.

<3 my twin.

My mom was born on her brother's birthday. I guess it was really hard for him as a toddler having my grandmother leave on his birthday to give birth and it didn't make for the smoothest transition. I think having one more celebration about LO before the new baby would be a really special thing.

What else do siblings get "individualized" if not their birthday? Everything else you have to share. Not saying that sharing a birthday is the worst thing ever, but as a child I liked having one day in the year where I could request whatever I wanted for dinner without having to consider my siblings lol.

Like PPs said though if they have to be on the same day so be it. Kids adjust.

I'd pick different days just so you're not in the hospital on your oldest's birthday.

My uncle was induced on my aunt's birthday. From the stories I've heard, it wasn't so great for them.

But my mom and two of her siblings were born on 3 consecutive days, so they were close, but each had their own day at home, but could still share their family party.

I personally would have liked that better if I had to choose.
