I don't know if it helps to hear but we live in a much smaller space with two adults, two kids and a dog, LOL. 15% increase in rent is a lot when you're talking about a high rent to begin with but I do think an extra bedroom would make life more pleasant. I also know what a pain moving is, especially in NYC. I don't know, we were offered a bigger apartment at a marginal cost of rent but my husband was like yours and refused to consider moving since we may also be moving within the year! Mentally, it helped me not get overwhelmed by making a list for each space I wanted to pack in a day and just focusing there and finishing whole rooms or one closet completely before moving on. It's the odds and ends stuff at the end that drives me nuts. I did the kids stuff/room last although I yanked things for donation sooner. Theirs was the last room we packed and dismantled, first to set up. At the new house, their rooms and toys and play spaces and a TV were the first to get set up too.
