@caffeinated: haha, and I'm not used to people knowing about the Kootenays! I emailed the Neslon principle and asked if a school here is being discussed by anyone.

@Mrs. Superhero: I keep forgetting you're in the Kootenays! Yeah, that's a tough decision. But you still have some time before kindergarten...i'd keep my eye out on houses in the other town and also possibilities of a Wildflower school starting up in yours!

@caffeinated: I could send them to a different school in town, I'm talking about a neighbouring town. We live in a small town close to only other small towns in the back end of nowhere (which I love) so even though the nearest Wildflower school is only a 40 minute drive away, it's not in our town :(

Yup, I probably would. Our house search was limited to just a few towns in the state that had the highest ranked schools.

I would. A good school district was top on our list. It played into why some houses were crossed off our list.
I would probably wait a little though before you start looking. If nothing happens in the next year then I will start looking.

Yes, we would (that was a factor when choosing the neighbourhood) but in our city there are no restrictions, and you can send your kids to a school in a different district. However, we still wanted to be close by to a good school so that it wouldn't be a hassle getting them to school.

@Mrs. Superhero: I am googling wildflower school right now. It sounds great!

To answer your question, yes we would move for better schools, but it wouldnt be the only factor. We live in Boston and a lot of the suburbs have top notch schools but we'd never move to them bc they are too remote/not diverse enough.

That sounds awesome!

We are currently in a great school district but we're thinking if we do move, we want to be closer to a certain primary school.

Yup. One of the reasons we are in no rush to buy is that we'll have a better idea about schools once we have LOs. But we will absolutely do what it takes to be in a very good school district and will narrow our search that way first.

Absolutely. We currently live in a great school district, but if we ever decide to move in the future, the first thing I'll be looking at is the public school system.

Yes. We rent currently. When we purchase a home next year, our number 1 consideration will be the quality of the schools in the neighborhood where we move.

Wow! @Mrs. Superhero: That sounds really cool! Yes, I would move to a better school/district if it made sense. Currently, we moved into this house with school district and location as a main factor. I'm going to see if any of our schools have the program though - sounds really interesting!

I would, but only if it made sense for other factors, such as commute, affordability of housing, etc. I don't think I would move somewhere soles because of school since the public schools where I live are already excellent.

But the school you describe sounds really intriguing!

yes we will most likely move. our zoned school has a gifted and talented program, but the school overall is not a good one. we don't own though, so the decision to move is easier.

Our schools are pretty good. The next district over has really excellent schools, though. It kinda stinks that we're so close to it but we can't afford houses there so we have no choice but to stick to the "pretty good" public schools for now. We still have time as well so maybe we'll make enough money to move one day!

@lemondrop: I know! Both the schools are in our district so I have some hope of it starting up here, but we're in a more blue-collar town so I'm not sure if as many parents would be looking for a more alternative school program.

Yes, the schools here are horrible, so we are hoping to relocate to a place that values schools more when our boy gets closer to school age. It its all about retirees here, which meanness education comes as a last priority. We also want a more family friendly neighborhood for when he gets older.

sounds amazing!

i would absolutely move to have my someday LOs go to a better school. school is such a huge part of their lives & they would spend more waking hours there than with us once they hit elementary school. anything with the much influence on kids is worth a move to me.

Two neighbouring towns offer a Wildflower School, which sounds amazing to me. It is (from my understanding) a multi-age classroom set up based loosely on Waldorf/Montessori principles but is part of the public school system (publicly funded and meets provincial educational standards). The kids go four days a week and are home schooled on the fifth. It's much closer to what I would want for my kids and I'm kind of jealous of my brother for having that option (hopefully, she's not old enough yet) for his niece.

Almost enough that I'd want to move...
Probably I should just see if there's enough interest to start a program here. I mean, I do have 2.5 years before TG starts kindergarten.

Would you move if you could get your child into a school you love?
