I refused to use the same name as their daughter because 1) I didn't want them to think we named our LO after their child and 2) I didn't want our LO to respond when they called their child (which was frequently "name don't do this or that"). However I have 2 friends that chose the same girl name that we are considering & I am fine using it if we choose to! I don't think it's as much about how frequently we see them as it is about the kind of relationship we have. I wouldn't use a best friend or sibling's child's name. But, most of the friends I keep are close/longtime/family friends. If it was someone like a co-worker or acquaintance, I'd see no problem with it. It's interesting that so many PP would consider it if they don't see their friends often. I don't see a lot of my closest friends on a regular basis (not even once a month), so I still wouldn't use any names they'd pick! There are some perks to being the first one to get married and pregnant. Otherwise I don't see an issue with my child having the same name as a friend's. No matter what I name my kid they won't be the only person in the world with that name. One of my closest friends begged me not to name Charlie Charlie because she knows two Charlies she hates! But I'm not close to them at all so it wasn't a factor...
