I don't mind the shedding, but I have hardwood floors. It's not too difficult to sweep around the tree daily.

We always got balsams growing up when we lived in NY and we get fraisers down in tx and they both shed to me! I much prefer balsam smell to all other tree smells!

I've gotten the ones that don't shed as much before and they still shed once they start drying out. So I don't think it actually matters. But we usually get the hybrid that smells good but supposedly doesn't shed quite as bad.

We are thinking of getting a pine that costs 30 $ and putting it on the porch so lo can look at it but we won't have to deal with the needles. She is almost 6 months and we have carpet... next year I probably will pay more for the less shedding!

Yes! But only because of our pets and carpets. Dragging the vacuum out twice a day isn't fun.

We bought the cheapest tree on the lot (a Balsam)... but it sheds like crazy! The more expensive tree (a Fraser Fir) doesn't shed nearly as much, but is $30 more.

I can't decide whether or not it was worth it to have a tree that doesn't shed. I've put Charlie in charge of sweeping up the fallen needles every day, and so I'm hoping that a judicious use of child labor can split the difference here.
