maybe adding more heat here... What's wrong with drop sided cribs? Ours is, although its got metal drop thingys, not plastic.

Call me crazy but I wouldn't! I was offered a crib that was about $25 and it was fixed drop side and I wouldn't take it. A crib is something I wanted new.

I don't see a problem with it at all. I wouldn't be comfortable using one long-term but wouldn't mind using it for a visit.

@BabyBoecksMom: the only reason we decided to fix the side is because the latches on it are plastic and were bent weirdly (from being in storage), so they didn't seem very stable. If that wasn't the case, we'd be using the drop side.

We have a Million Dollar Baby hand-me-down drop-side crib. I went on their website and registered for a (free) conversion kit, which had two metal brackets and some screws, and instructions on how to fix the drop-side.

I don't see how a crib with a "fixed" drop side is any less safe than a regular crib. They all just have screws holding the whole bed together.

That's what my LO sleeps in. It's actually the same crib I slept in as a baby.

For the brief time that my girl slept in a crib, she slept in one with a drop side that we'd zip tied up. No big deal.

My brother and I slept in drop side cribs that were bungee-corded not to go down, haha. So I probably wouldn't have a problem letting my LO sleep in a fixed drop side crib.

I wouldn't have any problem at all. My FIL just put a giant screw through the sliding rails so that it would slide anymore. Bueno!

Yes, at my IL's, it felt perfectly sturdy when I tested it.
We were also sleeping in the same room, so that made it a non-issue.

We were given a drop side crib but I think that we are going to order a new one. I will just feel better, peace of mind is worth the cost. Plus the hardware is missing, hassle to get new ones. I also just want one knowing it will convert to a toddle bed and then a full.
