I haven't had babies in the NICU, but my preference would be some snacky things with the promise of a meal once we were all home.

But I'm not really into stuff for babies and prefer to just buy what I need, and we have plenty of money for take-out as well. So for me, the best part of a gift would be having something that would save me time. Having snacks on hand and a meal ready to go later would do that. But I know other people enjoy gifts much more than me, and for some people having the gift card for take-out might be really appreciated.

How about some snacks and a gift card for food nearby? That way they can use it when they are ready or when they are in real need. Although a real meal at the hospital sounds nice, personally I would rather have it frozen at my house for when it's just me and the baby/ies and I really need the break.

I would send a gift card for take out or a restaurant near the hospital. Throwing in a couple small items like a nice water bottle and a small bottle of lotion or a little tote bag might be nice too. I had a NICU baby and after I was discharged, I commuted back and forth to the hospital to be with LO as much as possible and I carried a bag of stuff with me, including my pump stuff, a folder and notebook, a water bottle, and easy to eat snacks like granola bars. DH and I ate by the hospital and ordered take out too. I think anything like that, or even some preemie clothes, would be so appreciated by your friends!

We have friends who just had twins at 30 weeks. Would you send food (gift basket with both snacky items and a meal) to them at the hospital or send a gift for the babies to the house? My husband and I have different opinions and we will probably only do one of the two due to cost.
