@KayKay: yeah, the following year LO will be in preschool so we'll have two separate drop offs then too.

@Truth Bombs: we were quite content with the infant room, it was the one year old room that had pervasive issues. I wouldn't send my child to a center I wasn't comfortable with for the sake of saving money. I would be comfortable with the infant room (assuming the same teachers are there, and they likely are).

I would not do this. Not because of the inconvenience but because I wouldn't be willing to send one child to a day care I pulled my other child out of just for the sake of saving money. Obviously there were reasons you left that daycare.

Not ideally. But you gotta do what you gotta do! Mine will be at different places this year bc LO1 is in a preschool and LO2 is just going to drop in care a couple times a week. But I chose the preschool I did bc LO2 can attend starting at 18 months (she is a Nov birthday and would have to wait another full year at most places)

We are going to be doing this because my daughters preschool doesn't take infants. When DS gets here, he will go to the daycare that DD went to. They are sister centers so about 10 mins walk away from each other. Annoying in the winter but whatevs, totally doable.

it depends on how much we'd save, how long it was for and how old my kids were. 2 drop offs/pick ups sounds like the worst.

I know 2 different friends who have done it, their older child went to day care/preschool and younger baby went to an in-home day care or nanny-share. The in-home daycare was her neighbor so it made drop off/pu easier.

Ours will go to different places next year: preschool for one and an in home daycare for the other. I do drop off, and our in home is in our subdivision so it's not a big deal

@PrincessBaby: I've done a little number crunching on a nanny, but a nanny makes me nervous. I like the oversight of a center.

We thought about it since infant care is so expensive at our current center, but I do the vast majority of pick up and drop off and I just cannot imagine going to two places every day. The cost gets better once they are in the 1 year old room so we are just going to suck it up the first nine months.

No, because that sounds like more stress than it's worth! We actually ended up going with a nanny because otherwise I'd have 2 drop offs if I put DD2 in a daycare while DD1 goes to pre-K. I knew that would just be complete bananas so we went the nanny route. If DD2's school offered daycare, even a more expensive one, then I would have absolutely done that, but they only do PreK starting at 2 years old unfortunately. 2 drop offs and 2 pick ups sounds horrible!

Sure, if it's not terribly inconvenient. It sounds fine in your case. My kids will be in different schools next year since DD1 is starting kinder. The two schools are not close to each other at all, but it's just something we'll have to deal with for a few years.

Not a chance. Sounds like a total pain - what if there's an emergency and one person has to do both drop offs/pickups? Nope. Plus my older son likes to visit his little brother in the infant room, he'd be sad to go all day without seeing him.

@BandDmommy: one is by the house, one is by work. DH would probably handle one pick up/drop off and I'd handle the other. We work near each other so either of us could do either or both, though I think on a typical basis, we'd split it. Idk if it's worth the cost savings or not! If DH truly did one pick up/drop off, it'd be so nice to only be wrangling one LO!

@Applesandbananas: how close are 2 daycares? It's doable but probably PITA to go to 2 daycares.

I am not only because it isn't realistic for me to do two different drop offs in the morning and still make it to work on time. I have spent a lot of time considering this, because it could even save up to $500 a month when they reach the right age.

We are crunching numbers and threw out the idea of sending #2 to a different center (the one LO went to his first year) that is less expensive. Their infant room was pretty nice, the ratio was very low, compared to the state regulations. It wasn't until LO moved into the 1 year old room that things went south.

Would you ever do it?
