@TRAVELGIRL1 - gotcha. I totally understand. I sometimes feel like I am at my wits end with nursing through the night and co-sleeping. I wish you lots of good luck!!

I wouldn't do it during a peak of separation anxiety, no. But when it tapers off a little I think it'll be ok. We ha the same thing going at 13 months but at 14 I decided to start letting her cry a little (up to 20 min) and within a few days she started going down on her own...just not in the motn.

@brownie: I thought about getting DH to do it, her separation anxiety is so bad though she freaks at him just now.

@Kemma: She is SO feisty, reading and rocking won't cut it. She has à lot of spice in her when she wants to nurse, lol!

@Aimed: You are so right, there is ALWAYS something!

@Dagny: @Mrs. Twine: I don't really feel that A is à good candidate for sleep training but I have to get her a bit more dependent in the sleep area. Right now she only falls asleep with me lying next to her but I've just started to look after a friend's little girl, who is a fabulous sleeper, and I could do with A being able to settle herself so if the other LO wakes up A can still sleep while I tend to her. RE teeth: Some other mums I know scared me with their babies having loads of cavaties from night time nursing. I know she might be fine but I feel like if she's not I will blame myself. Sad, because I love nursing. I also have to wean for health reasons so I'll have to do it anyway

Would your LO respond to you reading to her or maybe just working on rocking, rather than nursing to sleep?

Miss A has wicked separation anxiety at night at the moment and it sucks so I feel your pain :-(

We night weaned but continued to cosleep, my husband did wake ups for a while. He would offer him water or milk in a sippy cup.

For the record-- night nursing does not necessarily=cavities. I nursed Ellie in the night until she was an ungodly age and she has never had a single one. Lorelei just had her first check recently, and her teeth are fantastic, as well. If you are really concerned, they have those little dental wipes you can use.

If you really want or feel like you need to get her sleeping on her own, do what you have to do. Many moms who night-wean swear by having their parners handle the wake-ups. I can't give you any practical advice on that end because I've never done either.

Two time sleep-training drop out here! (No judgment whatsoever :) it just didn't work with my LO unfortunately). Just curious about your concerns regarding nursing to sleep and LO's teeth. I nurse my 9 mo throughout the night (co-sleeping) and am wondering if I'm missing something here. Thanks!

@travelgirl1: no you are not a total cow! It's difficult to say when the right time for sleep training is and it depends on the child so much. One thing to consider is that to some extent there is always something going on with lo's, teething, Separation anxiety, travel etc. so sooner or later you just have to go for it!

My LO is 13 months and we've never sleep trained, have nursed to sleep and we co-sleep for most of the night.

I want her to learn to fall asleep on her own but mainly I want to stop nursing her through the night as I'm scared of the damage it could do to her teeth. She's not on board with this at all, lol.

Anyway, I've been trying to sleep train her with me in the room but right now she has MAJOR separation anxiety going on, I feel so bad for DH because she just won't let anyone else pick her up at all. Tonight's bedtime was a disaster.

Am I a total cow for trying to do this when her separation anxiety is so bad? Do I need to wait?
