We didn't start cloth until around 5 months and it was still totally worth it. The one size diapers for great at this pout !

in your situation i would switch especially if you plan on having more kids later on! :) you also might not need a huge stash (maybe 18-24 at most? we have 12 and are happy with it) because older kids use less diapers per day.

We switched our twins at the same time (7 mo), and it's definitely been worth it for us!

I dont think its ever too late! I got a lot of my diapers from watching for sales and just keep stocking up my stash as they go on sale. Also if you are planning only one child or even worried about spending lots this late in the game you can find AIO's for like 6 bucks a diaper.

If you cloth full time, you'll break even on costs after about 6 months. So I'd still do it but i would think about renting for a month, just to be sure!

Why not try out a set from Jillian's Drawers, they have a really cool deal where you can try a varied stash for 21 days and see what you think. You pay for the items and then you return them for a full refund at the end of your trial for a full refund minus $10. It seems like a great idea especially if you are on the fence, the way I see it you are likely to save $10 on diapers in three week so why not!

@JoyfulKiwi: agreed! the multiple kid savings is what really drew me (among other things!) but i added up everything we bought and we recouped our costs in 6 months and that was figuring in for cheaper disposables! we use BG 4.0s, but i shopped their seconds sales and deals!

I'd do it!! Cloth diapers hold their value pretty well if you want to resell.

I would probably go for it! The only reason I haven't switched at 6 months is that we have a communal laundry room :/

Do you plan on having a second child someday? If yes, then definitely you'd recoup your costs. If not, then you might need to do some number crunching to see if its worth the cost. However, if you don't really care as much about the savings and are more interested in the no chemicals side, then do it!

My LO is 7 months. He's been wearing disposable diapers since he was born, most recently and successfully Earth's Best, which have been great (no leaks or blowouts).

But I'm thinking it might be smarter cost-wise to make the initial investment in cloth, plus I love that he wouldn't be exposed to as many chemicals.

He is watched in our home by my DH's aunt who is familiar and willing to use cloth diapers, and also willing to wash them.

So would you switch this late in the game to cloth, or just keep going with Earth's Best since we've had success with them for the past couple of months?

ETA - and yes, I'm aware this is a total first world mom problem to have; I feel really lucky that we have the choice to use a premium diaper or switch to cloth at all!
