if you think it won't disrupt anyone, then i say go. I took LO to movies almost every week for a year, but it was designed for moms and babies to go, so crying babies were acceptable. The other good thing was that they lowered the volume and had a change table available. Despite how accessible it was, i had to remove my expectations that i actually got to watch the ENTIRE movie peacefully, simply because LO needs attending to and it takes my attention away from the move. But i was okay with that, because i mostly went for the sake of an outing and i made some friends who joined me many times with their LOs.

As well, i took LO maybe 2 or 3 times to a movie on saturday matinee with LO (not adapted for moms and babies). Then I had to accept that i would actually miss parts of the movie because noisy babies were not acceptable, so we sat at the edge of a row near the exit so i could step out with LO quickly if need be. Having LO in a carrier and a pacifier on hand made things easier too :) LO also surprised me by taking awesome stroller naps on many of our movie outings.

Nope. Sometimes movie theater movies hurt my ears they are so loud (and I have terrible hearing!) I wouldn't take a baby in there.

@Leialou: it's a Pg movie, just not a kid specific movie. Taking a child to an R rated movie is REALLY against my moral code.

Nope! Glad it looks like you're re-considering it. An almost empty theater is not the same thing as an empty theater, and if I was in there with you guys I would be pretty pissed at having the movie I paid to see interrupted by baby stuff. A kid's movie is one thing, but not an adult one.

And after typing this I realized it's basically the same thing @night cheese: said. So yeah, I second that!

Honestly, as someone without a child I get annoyed when I see children of any age at an adult (r rated) movie. I feel like elementary school children are too young to be exposed to the content of the movie, toddlers are squirmy and noisy, and babies cry which causes the parents to get up and walk in front of the screen to go out of the theatre. Also it seems too loud for little ears.

I'd go knowing that if the baby was disruptive I'd leave.

There are a lot of theaters that do movies for moms during tdg week. If they don't, maybe you could convince them to start one up?

I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't enjoy myself or really get a chance to pay attention to the movie while attending to a squirmy LO, it would just be a waste of money. Plus, I don't really think it matters how many other people are in the theater. Annoying two people who paid for an adult form of entertainment isn't a whole lot better than annoying 20 people.

@mediagirl: Honestly, I would probably be on edge if a couple with a baby came in, too! Like I said, I'm a curmudgeon.

We recently flew from new orleans back to NYC and saw another family with a toddler boarding. The toddler was really loud (as toddlers haven't learned how to modulate their volume yet), and I whispered to my husband, "Oh my god, I hope we aren't near them".

And he was like, "but we have a baby, too". And I was like, exactly! Our baby is quiet and will probably sleep the whole time--but she won't sleep near that shouting 3 year old.

(for the record, that boy fell asleep in the air and slept the whole, flight too).

I'm so awful. I know that's going to be me in a few years, and then I'll be trying to sit far away from the "screaming infants". haha.

@Anagram: this has nothing to do with your baby but my husband and I went to see Avatar when it was in the theater. A woman and her daughter (maybe 6?) sat behind us. The woman explained the movie the ENTIRE TIME to her child. Then her child got bored and started running up and down the stairs. OMG our heads almost exploded. I feel like I go to the movies to get away from life. Not to deal with someone else's kids. Ugh. I think I would be on edge the entire time if someone came in with their baby just knowing the baby was going to cry and the parent wasn't going to care and it would totally ruin my experience.

....(but that's just me)... hahaha.

@looch: yeah, the more I think about it the more I think it won't work. If they were having a baby-parent movie day and I knew there would be lots of kids making noise, I probably wouldn't care at all and would just bring some toys to keep LO occupied.

But on a normal day....

Ah well. I can always drop LO at daycare and just go see a movie by myself! and sleep, for hours and hours on end.

@Bookish: As I said in another thread recently, I am a curmudgeon. That means that loud babies, teenagers, AND old people asking for their movie partner to repeat things annoy me. There's a small movie theater chain in Texas that is totally serious about kicking out cellphone users and loud patrons, and I LOVED it.

Which is hilarious that now I'm thinking about breaking my own movie theater moral code. lol

I think it sounds fine in theory, but in reality, how much of the movie can you realistically watch with a semi-mobile baby on your lap? I have to really pay attention to movies, lol, otherwise, I just miss key elements of the plot!

@Anagram: Is it inexpensive enough that you wouldn't mind leaving if it started to be an issue? I've been in movies where there have been young babies, and I don't mind unless it disrupts my movie experience like, a lot. It's usually teenagers that bother me more!

I say go for it, and if it becomes an issue, then be ok with leaving early!

Just for funsies. This is the construction and the theater--it's no wonder people think it's closed. And the construction is on the other side as well. And on yeah, this theater has no parking, so you can only walk to it. =)
