I think I would rather fly than take a super long road trip. But if it's something like 2-3 hours then that would be fine. At this point, she is old enough to watch DVDs so that will keep her entertained. I think she would sleep for a max of 1 hour.

Hm. I think I would rather go on a road trip rather than flying. BUT, this is coming from only having the experience of flying with an infant...

Our longest was 4 1/2 hours to see some friends and family. It wasn't bad- we timed it so she'd nap for a lot of it and I sat in the back to keep her entertained.

We drove to vancouver last year for a family ski trip. It's about an 8 hour drive. We broke the drive up into two days. We always try to time the drive so that it coincides with nap time if possible. The longest we've driven with two kids is an hour.

I've only gone 3 hours with my kids and traveling during nap time is key, and if they aren't not on the same schedule choose the one who doesn't tolerate long rides. But I have driven from Chicago to NY with my sister, BIL, and my 2 nephews (2, and 4). We drove at night but it was still a 15 hour trip and we drove straight through, only pulling over for bathroom and gas.

We took 2 three hour drive trips. Try planning around nap time so they'll sleep in the car!

We are taking a little trip next month...it is a six hour drive but I'm sure it will take a lot longer with a baby! I'm overwhelmed thinking about all the things we need to pack!

Planes are so stressful to travel with your LO or LOs, because if they yell... you will be surrounded by scores of people unhappy with you and plotting your death (well at least in my imagination).

Cars are a potentially less painful alternative, although they come with their own challenges too. We'd love to take a car-centric vacation sometime this year; maybe we'll drive to upstate New York for something when Olive is a bit older?

Would you ever take a long road trip with your LO for a vacation? Or have you already done it, and have some tips for us?
