One kid, no problem. Two 2 year olds, no way. We live close to the beach....while they've been to the lake, they still haven't been to the beach. Perhaps this summer, but not by myself!

I have once, but we it was definitely too cold to swim, so I didn't have to worry about dealing with them in the water. At this stage, I probably wouldn't go solo with two kids, especially if we wanted to get in the water.

I haven't. I usually go with my husband or my parents. Now that I'll have 2 this summer, no. My toddler loves to run so I'd go with backup!

Absolutely! I've taken my 2 girls to little beaches plenty of times. I've also gone a lot with friends and their kiddos. The wagon is a lifesaver! I just plop them, the diaper bag, towels, and the cooler into it and go.

1 kid yes, 2 kids no (unless the younger one is content to be carried at all times). I grew up at the beach and I heard of far too many accidents not to be totally paranoid around the water. This is why I love splash pads!!

I've done it, but we live down the block from the beach so I just need to grab a blanket and give DS his bucket. It's harder in the middle of the day though, because I can't carry the baby and the umbrella and the blanket! So it's only early morning or evening for solo trips.

i did often with DD1 when we lived close by (5 minute walk) for her first 2 years. not sure i would attempt this summer by myself with 2 but never say never! DD1 is pretty obedient with that kind of stuff and she wouldn't run into the water without me. i also grew up by the ocean and feel extremely comfortable with the beaches we frequent.

I did last summer with one LO (turned two in July). There is a beach a ten minute drive, 20-30 minute walk away, with a dedicated family beach that has some basic toys, bathrooms, almos no waves, and is walled off on three sides basically. It's much more fun with a friend and their LO but I also went alone a few times. It's so close we could go for an hour or two, eat lunch, and come home for nap.

This summer i am not sure about going with two. The baby won't really be mobile so it would just be a matter of putting her in a safe shaded spot so I could chase the toddler, but that's extra gear.

@psw27: I don't know if they are doing it again this summer but the members only family beach, next to M street, was great. Always pretty empty, and they had toys there, and bathrooms. Worth the $5 for the season!

But make no mistake, I am not lounging around. I am sitting right there and not looking at a magazine or anything.

Yes, in the summers we go to the beach almost daily. We live maybe 2 minutes from the beach. DH works during the day so he joins us in the evenings.

My family has a cottage though so it's a bit easier that way - We can go inside to eat lunch/naps/beat the heat. I don't have to lug towels, toys, etc from home. A lot of our neighbours have kids so they all play together on the beach which is awesome.

I can't wait for beach weather!!

Yeah, I did it last summer with just my son. But I wouldn't go solo with two. Too scared that I wouldn't be able to watch both at the same time. The ocean actually really scares me in general. I won't go past belly-button deep for myself.

ETA: I guess because we live close and go justor an hour or two I just bring one bag w a couple towels, toys, water, snacks. He usually rides home naked. I'm not one to over pack for things though.

I might do it with one kid. We have some beaches we love to go to, especially at low tide, and it's like a mile of water that's 6-12 inches deep. It's great for DS to play in. He runs around, jumping in the water, sitting and splashing, etc. However, I would not go anywhere by myself with DS that has waves.

Yeah I did it all the time last summer when DS1 was 3 and DS2 was like 6-9 months? We live about 20 mins from the beach (and 2 minutes from wading waters/ a pier). I used the double stroller and loaded it like a pack mule. I'm sure I'll do it again this summer, and I'll be pregnant to boot. Like anything else, it always sounds daunting before you do it, but once you do it, it's fine.

ETA I make my kids wear bubble/puddle jumpers and we go to kid friendly beaches aka ones with tide pools / low tide / no real surf. Also, my 4 year old is very obedient, would never just run into the ocean or take off on me.

If I lived close, I would. Both kids love the sand, and LO2 is only 7 months. I could hang onto him while my 3.5 year old played. He's too scared to go too far into the water, and really only lets it go up to his knees.

We live 2 hours from the closest beach though, so I'm not driving a total of 4 hours for a day trip to the beach on my own.

I would.
A waterpark - no, not at this age.
But there's so much to do at the beach. Our water time would be more controlled and they'd have less freedom in general. But we go to the pool, beach, river, amusement park without DH and still have fun. Last summer they were early 4 and 1.5 so assuming we can again this summer.
