I'll wait for the movie to come on Amazon or Netflix to see it. The soft porn/ steamy sex scenes reminds me of Magic Mike and my husband had ZERO interest in watching that with me. He'll probably treat 50 Shades of Grey the same way. I didn't read any of the books, but all the reviews keep talking about its much better than the book and is actually an enjoyable film. Too bad SOA's Jax dropped out.

I was practically begging DH to see it with me for Valentine's day but he refused because he said it would be too boring for him. I might go watch it by myself though I'd prefer to go with a friend. I'm just pretty certain I have no friends who want to see it :(

I read the books after I heard it was twilight fan fiction so I was curious and got hooked.

@coopsmama: I agree with you as well. Man with unresolved personal issues turns to beating women, but will do it in a 'sexual' way so it is ok? Ummm no thanks.

I think it's only gotten this much attention so far since it was conceived from twilight fan fiction and people get involved in trendy things for the sake of it being trendy.

My bestie is so into this series and lent me the books but I just did get the hype. I only read the first book and thought the writing was not that great. She did say the other books get better than the first and has a good ending.

@Maysprout: That is awesome!

We don't get out to the movies much. I'd watch the movie if it was on Netflix Instant but I wouldn't pay for it. I actually think it will probably be better than the book because the excerpts I've read from the book had horrendous writing.

Funny story... my husband is a 8th grade teacher and one of his smart-aleck students asked if he would take me to see the movie for Valentine's Day. My husband looked him dead in the eye and said, "You know that's basically pornography, right? So, no." .... Kid turned bright red and was basically shell-shocked into silence. Very rare for 8th graders!

@dc yoga bee: I agree, there is plenty of well-written erotica. Story of O is much better written than the 50 Shades book, and along the same general lines. I just meant that in all the fuss I heard about the book before reading it, praise of the writing style didn't come up, and if I had expected decent writing for whatever reason the first few pages would have quickly changed that :)

@MrsBananaGrabber: I totally agree there won't be many movies once baby gets here! But, there are plenty of literary masterpieces that are erotic fiction. Lady Chatterley's Lover
comes to mind! Even though we probably won't get another great masterpiece anytime soon, writers can still properly use spellcheck and an editor lol.

We'll probably go see it together (just not this weekend- too crowded). We like going to the movies, and know we won't have time once there's a baby. If it sucks, oh well.

I read all 3 books. The writing is terrible, but the plot was entertaining enough, which was all I expected. If you read 50 Shades of Grey expecting a literary masterpiece then it's your own fault when you're disappointed. My husband couldn't get through the first chapter because the writing bothered him so much, but he has no problem with going to the movie.

I went and saw the movie with a girlfriend and my sister mid-day today. I hadn't read the books but intend to. I thought the movie was pretty good and didn't invite my husband because a) he's working and b) most of it is about a love story - he hates those kinds of movies. He'd rather we saw a comedy together.

I wouldn't go see it in the theater, mainly because we never go to the movies, but I'm sure we'll watch it On Demand or on Netflix. I read the book and I mean, it was terrible but I still finished it lol. I'm sure it won't be the best movie ever but the commercials actually make it look better than I thought itwould be. At best, it's pretty good and at worst, we have a laugh. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable watching it with DH and he's interested in seeing what all the hype is about.
