I'd use it. Worse thing that happens is it breaks and you have to buy a new one.

For sure! We have an old one we bought at our church garage sale. We don't really need one in our condo, but it's nice to have when we travel to her grandparents'.

I don't think it's a problem...but we ended up returning the audio one we'd bought and getting a video one. Sometimes they make little noises in their sleep that the monitor picks up, and I don't get out of bed but I just watch the monitor to see if she's really going to wake up, or needs a pacifier, or just made a random noise. Lo makes noises that sound like a cry but it'll just be one or two, and then she'll be quietly asleep again.

Heck yeah!! I have an old black and white, boxy video monitor that was used for many years before I bought it from a neighbor at a yard sale for $10! I have used it for a year now and it has been perfect for my needs - to see my lo whenever I want without opening her door. :)

@mewtill: yes its just audio (and I think it's old enough to be "analogue" rather than "digital" audio... but we also live in a very small house, so most of the time I'll probably be so close I'd hear anything without a monitor anyway!

I think it should be fine - I'd use it. Is it audio only? We got an audio one and ended up not using it as much as I thought. We're all on the same level of the house, so if he cries we can hear him without the monitor - most nights we don't turn it on anymore.

But when he was younger (and i stopped holding him while he slept all the time!) I had it on all the time, just to hear him breathing :)

Hi ladies,

I have been given an older monitor by a kindly friend, it appears to be in perfect working order (and is mains-powered so I see no reason it should stop working anytime soon), but I was just wondering how others feel about trusting a 'used' monitor over buying a brand new one?

This one is about 6 years old I think, so monitor technology has come a long way since - but it seems like it will perfectly well serve our needs so I am a little loathe to go out and spend a lot of money on something else just because this isn't brand new!

Thoughts?
