so wanted to update, I ordered 2 BG4.0 off the classifieds and love :) I ordered two flip covers and bought some flour sack towels for my next attempt to see what I think of those!

the flips were buy one, get one free with free shipping on cotton babies, woot! I think I'll stick with disposables at night and when the 2nd baby is born, to ease into life with two and recovery with less laundry :)

I love them. Doing both (disposable at daycare), we broke even at a year. Full time, it was six months. I like having options. I can always keep a disposable in my car for emergencies-sometimes I forgot to even take a diaper bag places. I would definitely do it. I'm super pro cloth. It's so easy, IMO. Wash. Liners in trash. Done.

Do it! I love my cloth, and you can use less expensive diaper systems. I didn't use them regularly until about 12 weeks and it's already saved us so much money.

Eh, do it! My ex-husband was very anti-cloth, and so we did disposables, but once we were separated I started Ellie in cloth. She was 10 months. She was in underwear at 24 months. Lorelei was cloth from (almost) day one.

Oh, absolutely! I love them, and I think we're only having 1 LO :) Don't be intimidated...I've found them to be super easy. Laundry isn't bad at all. PM me on FB if you want details!

They're cute. They don't leak. I never run out of diapers. I can re-sell them. No poopsplosions.

Whoa! Per kid?? We didn't come up with nearly that savings when we calculated it out. About $250 for the first kid and about $850 for each kid after that. But we bought more expensive diapers instead of pre folds/covers and we were buying luvs brand diapers in bulk, so our cost per diaper was really pretty low. We also accounted for water use and detergent in our comparison...but that only made a small difference.

The no more poopsplosion is reason enough for me!! :)

@Mrs. Lion: I calculated the savings to be about $2,500 if you use cloth vs. traditional disposable, and about $4,200 if you use cloth vs. an organic brand. We would have used an organic brand, so for us, it was mainly cost savings. I also loved the eco part, how cute they are, and the fact that we've never had a poopsplosion.

I have the diapers already, so yes. But, if I didn't already have them, yes I would. The cost savings alone is enough of an incentive (thousands of dollars). I believe for hard water, they just recommend using a mainstream detergent, like Tide, as opposed to a more eco friendly one. I'm sure each diaper company has it's own recommendations. We use BumGenius 4.0 and love them.

If I were going to I would get a few used ones and see how it went first! You can always resell them. I thought about it for about 3 seconds once ;)

I probably wouldnt if i didnt already have the diapers, mostly because of the lack of cost savings. You save a little with the first kid, but the big savings are with subsequent children.

Unless of course your main reason isnt cost, then sure! You may be able to get a used lot for pretty inexpensive!

I use disposable with DD but during my pregnancy I had wanted to cloth diaper. I gave up on it because we have such hard water I didn't want to deal with the headache of washing a million times.

I'm stocked on disposables for DD2 for her first 4 months or so, but still have that "wish I could've cloth diapered" feeling!

I'm too intimidated, though!
