My father passed away just as I was newly pregnant with my first daughter but I had already had a name for a daughter picked out since like childhood and I still wanted to use it so I did. I reasoned I might have another child, a boy even, and could use my dad's name then. When I got pregnant with my last baby we picked names using my dad's name for a boy and a feminized version if it was a girl. I had a girl and she now has her middle name to honor my dad. DS's middle name is DH's first name. DD doesn't have any family names. I didn't love the name, to be honest, but we needed something simple as a middle name and I like the initials TJ as a nickname. I never though I would, though, as my parents gave me my mum's name as my middle and I have never forgiven them. R's name has no family ties (and we picked it before we knew she wouldn't make it), but L's middle name is DH's middle name, which he shares with multiple family members.
