Yeah, they had that at the 2nd hospital I worked at in NYC. Put my name down when I started working there... She was around 8 months old. So she was on a waiting list and I would call every so often to see if there were any updates. No lie... They called me with an offer close to her 4th birthday. Ummm, I had already worked there for almost 3 years, gotten pregnant again, gave birth again, went on maternity leave, decided to SAH and move across the country in a few months! So yeah, declined the spot, but I thought it was so hilarious.

Those on-site daycares are very popular. Usually it's best to get your name in as early as possible. Best to be an employee first, then get pregnant, and have your kid enter in as an infant. Otherwise, open spots are hard to come by. But, you never know!

@Sweet T: I think you still have to pay for it. I have no idea how much it costs. And it seems like it's a competitive daycare considering there are only 50 spots and 25,000 employees throughout MN at this chain of clinics.

@78h2o: oooh that's disappointing :(

My agency does run a daycare that is awesome but it is on the other side of town to us and comparable in terms of accreditation, staffing ratios, and price to the one we have LO in. For me, saving an hour in the car each day was worth the small price difference. But it sounds like a great set up for you!

That's what we're doing! Unfortunately ours is only temporary. You can only use it 6 months out of the calendar year... It's meant to be a transitional program for new moms and dads returning to work from leave, then occasional drop in care. I'm sad because I love it!

There is a daycare at my work, but it's a few blocks away in another building and CRAZY expensive. So unfortunately it's not an option. It would be so neat if it was in the same building... I might be tempted to pay their crazy fees in that case, though it's $400-500 more per month that other really nice centers.

Definitely. I'm an early childhood teacher, but right now, I work at a pre-k center (just for 4-5 year olds). If I worked at a center that had infant/toddler classes, I would def. have my child there since I would be working in the same building!

@creativemomma15: yeah idk if its even an option to transfer and I'd def have to work for them for awhile first before asking but it would be joyous if I could! Especially before I have a second baby!

My employer daycare doesn't take LOs until 15 months, so not doable! I went there when I was a kid, so it would have been cool....I guess? haha.

I would absolutely!! No having to stop to drop off or pick up, and no rushing before daycare closed... and being able to see them during the day, amazing!!!

When I was working, it didn't. But my friend had a daycare in the building she worked in and it sounded wonderful! She could go visit whenever she wanted, and would nurse the baby instead of pump at work! AH-Mazing.... I think it is totally worth it!

That would be soooo nice! You could pack you both up at once, one stop, etc! A longer commute could be harder, but if you moved that would be nice!

ETA: And you could easily be there whenever you needed to nurse, check in, for snuggles, etc...

I just found out that one of the locations of the clinic/hospital I'm working for has a daycare for employees! 50 spots for employees and 50 spots for the community. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have my child where I work - no worries about pumping or something happening and me unable to get home... etc

I'm already thinking maybe eventually I'd like to transfer to that location instead ;) Only bummer is it's an hour away, longer during rush hour so we'd probably have to move.

Does your work offer this? Would you take advantage of it if they did?
