@lawbee11: There are probably other activities we could look into. I am just used to our little routine and seeing our friends every week and I enjoy getting out of the house with him. We may need to switch it up a bit!

@MrsF: You might have a point there-my LO is 5 1/2 months and this morning he slept until almost 8:30, which pushed his first two naps so late that his third nap would have been at 5:00 so we just kept him up instead. If I had woken him at 7:30 or so, he still would have had time for three naps.

I guess the problem with "preserving the schedule" is that as soon as I thought I had his schedule figured out, he went and changed it on me!

I'm joining the minority with @RubyCali: M (she's 13 months, I'm not sure how old your LO is) has been sleeping later and later lately and I've been waking her by 7:15 if she's still sleeping so that she will go down for her first nap at 9. I'm a huge Dr Weissbluth fan ("healthy sleep habits, happy child" saved my sanity) and he says "never wake a sleeping baby, except to preserve the schedule".

She does great on a schedule with naps at 9 and 2 - so I'm doing everything I can to keep it that way.

i wouldn't regularly wake her, but i have woken her up if i planned on one thing and she decided on another, but only for that immediate nap! since baby sleep does change all the time, i try not to count on too much! LO woke up at 9 for most of last week and this and then decided to get up at 7 today!

I am not a morning person so I'd much prefer the later wakeup time. I pretty much never make plans for the morning to allow for her nap, and the fact that I don't get dressed or anything until she goes down for that nap. We usually plan things for the afternoon since naps are harder to come by then anyway.

I wouldn't wake him for optional activities. I had to wake LO this morning at 7:30am to get him to daycare and go to work on time. Thankfully, I made my lunch and washed out sippys before I woke him up. For work, I wake him up. Otherwise, I let him sleep in.

I wouldn't wake him. Our LO does this sometimes and we just push back activities. He usually always goes back to his earlier wake up time anyways.

I might be in the minority, but I'd wake him. I generally wake LO up when we have morning activities planned and it has always worked out fine. Plus, it's not like 7 am is unusually early or anything

@tlcbaby: I've thought on this before but his sleep is always changing. So I'd decide I was going to wake him at X and he'd switch to waking at Y. So I generally plan around his needs, moms activities will always be there. It's easier now that he's on one nap.

I think you should trust your gut. I'm not sure how old your baby is.

My personal philosophy is if Baby is asleep for an optional activity we skip it, or go late if he wakes up in time. Just do what feels right to you.

Are there any activities later in the day you could attend? I agree with your sister--I wouldn't wake him and skip the activities. I know if I woke M she'd be cranky and no fun to take to the activities anyways!

ETA: He may transition back to an earlier time on his own. I feel like baby sleep is constantly changing.

LO used to wake up around 7:00am, which put his first nap around 9:00am. This worked well with the new mom's group we attend and the mommy and me workout class we go to (both start at 10:30am).

The past couple of weeks, his morning wakeup time has been inching closer to 8:00am, which means his first nap is at 10:00am and I hate to leave the house right at nap time for activities.

My sister says if I have a baby that sleeps until 8:00am I should be thankful and let him sleep and skip out on our activities. My mom said maybe I could start waking him a bit earlier, 30 minutes or so, to keep our old schedule.

I really don't know on this one. I know that sleep changes all the time and he won't always be taking three naps a day. I hate to mess with his schedule. Any bees want to chime in with your opinion?
