Nope but she isn't even three and a late talker. She wouldn't understand the concept yet.

I think K (4yo) would only pass if there was someone in the room who he could ask questions about or seek reassurances about the fact that he would get 2 if he waited.

I'm pretty sure D (2yo) wouldn't follow any directions given by any person regardless of how much they benefitted him, ha!

DS is 18 months old, so no. But in my job, I research self-control, so I can't wait until he's old enough to test it out on him! :silly:

Mine is only 2, and he would fail and also eat everyone else's marshmallows in the room :silly: I would be very interested to see how he would do at age 4 since we have started working the past month on "wait."

DS would most likely pass. If you tell him not to eat it, he won't. And he always asks before eating anything.

@erinpye: Your comment made me wonder if I started a thread about this a year ago! The only thing I found was this though http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/can-your-kids-delay-gratification

I swear we had a thread about this a year ago! Yes, they would: they have done similar things, delaying a treat by choice, for a better treat later.

My coworkers told me about this a year ago or so ago! I have been doing to my oldest off and on ... slowing increasing the time. He does really well! Totally passes each time. I was totally shocked.... I for sure thought he wouldn't make it. We use chocolate kisses instead of marshmallows.

I've been reading up on the famous Marshmallow Test lately:

<< Stanford researchers left 4-6 year old children alone in a room with a marshmallow, and told them they would get a second marshmallow after 15 minutes if they didn’t eat the first one. Some of the children ate the marshmallow right away, most tried to resist at least for a little while, and 1/3 of the children were able to wait long enough to get the second marshmallow. ...

The researchers then followed the children through adulthood and found that the ones who were able to delay gratification and wait for the second marshmallow had higher SAT scores (an average of 210 points) and were generally happier and more successful in life. >>

http://www.hellobee.com/2012/02/08/the-importance-of-executive-function/

My daughter would have no problems passing the Marshmallow test, but my son would really struggle with it! There are some exercises you can do to increase your willpower/Marshmallow resistance, so I'm looking into that... I think being able to delay gratification will help with some behavioral issues we've been seeing lately.
