@Cherrybee: I love this. Obviously Santa goes through a lot of food, he’s feeding a lot of elves! Imagine how many trips to the grocery store he’d need, that’s precious toy-making time plus the reindeer would get tired...

Santa shops at Amazon. They're one of the only companies that deliver to the North Pole. As there are no shops at the North Pole, he has to order everything online - his toilet rolls, breakfast cereal etc. I hear they've got a good deal on reindeer food at the moment. And because he's a super good guy, he reuses the boxes. Some people leave their boxes out a couple of weeks before Christmas for Santa to pick up and use..... He needs a LOT of boxes you see......

@maddyz: When you get to that point, there is a Santa Key that comes with a poem attached about how you don’t have a chimney so you’re leaving him a key to your door. Sort of creepy I IMO,, but it can resolve some unanswered questions for curious kids. Someone gave one to us when we lived in an apartment; I think it came from either the Christmas tree shop or Amazon

@Autumnmama79: @MaryM: These are both super creative ideas! :):)

I think I've decided I don't really need to use the boxes - one of DD1's "big" presents we were trying to make DD2's gifts "match" in size is a bike...and I think we have decided to put that in the garage for last, anyway.

We aren't there yet, but I am pretty sure that my kids will think that Santa has to mail all the presents ahead of time because we live in an apartment and there is no other way for them to get in... Also I am so lazy and there is no where to hide anything.

Another possible option...my dad used to turn boxes inside out (just cut them open to be flat, then tape them back together) in order to reuse them without markings.

You could do that, and if your kids notice the markings inside and question it (remove the shipping label of course!), tell them that Amazon gets their boxes from Santa, not the other way around.

My parents decided that since everything Santa was delivering was delivered over Christmas Eve, it just would all come unwrapped! He fills the stocking with unwrapped items and the stocking sits on top of/next to the big gift from Santa for that year.

We also take turns opening gifts, so they use wrapping paper to differentiate groups of gifts. "Poinsetta paper is all from Grandma and Grandpa, let's pull all those out and open them this round", type thing. So Santa's stand out as the unwrapped ones :)

@ShootingStar: My parents also used to tell us sometimes Santa delivers things to some houses early if parents are willing to hide them and he can trust the kids not to open them (we'd find wrapped presents that said they were from Santa)

Totally made sense to us.

Santa also used the same wrapping paper and had the same handwriting as my parents. Because "Santa talks to each child in the language they are most familiar." That's often really similar to their parents.

(my parents were really good...)

My kids are too young to notice that kind of detail (4 and 1). But we did tell the 4 year old that sometimes mommies and daddies help santa out by buying presents and then santa takes them and delivers them on Christmas. Totally doesn't really make sense but he bought it after I got him some slippers that I said had to wait for Christmas :silly: .

Yes, my son would notice. In fact, this year I went out and bought a decorative box for a couple of items that came loose and in an amazon box so that he wouldn't question it.

He's been seeing amazon boxes since he was 2 arrive at our house so there is no way he would accept the logic that Santa gifts come from amazon.

@catgirl: I can't remember what the specific item was, but last year Santa definitely "borrowed" something from us. I think it was maybe bows or ribbon? Or gift tags? Anyway, my then four year old was okay with the idea that Santa couldn't necessarily haul his own trimmings along with all the toys, or that he liked to add bows at each house so they didn't get crushed, or something along those lines :)

@Salty: Oh definitely - Santa uses a specific paper for each kid - it matches the paper he uses in their stocking filler gifts, so that before they can read their names they can find their own gifts under the tree (pretty much a non issue this year, but it helps when they're excited and things are going fast). And I am super cautious about hiding Santa's paper in my attic.

@MrsF: @Foodnerd81: My kids think everything in the world comes from Amazon or Target. Seriously, I tried to take the 3.5 year old to Toys R Us this year to get some gift ideas for family members, and she wasn't having it. She legit either didn't get what it was, or didn't want anything to do with it. Come to think of it, we really haven't talked up the idea of Santa "making" presents very much - I am pretty sure my kids would be ok with the idea that even Santa needs to rely on Amazon Prime sometimes. Although, one day my 3.5 year old was up really late and joined DH and me in our yard by the fire pit. It was super cold and clear, and we were looking at the stars - she said she could see the North Pole, so I asked what she thought Santa was making that night, and she confidently told me Lalaloopsies. So I definitely got some for her stocking :) :)

...Santa used Amazon boxes in his wrapping?

I want to use some large boxes to make small but high value gifts seem “equal” to those that are physically bigger....I’d been planning to use large amazon/target shipping boxes, but now I’m pausing to wonder if that might raise questions. Kids are 3.5 and 5.5.

Thoughts? :)
