Both DH and I went to "OK" public schools, and we turned out just fine and went to good colleges and everything. So we're comfortable with the plan for now. I feel like elementary school is where you get your first impression about school and either develop a positive view about school and learning or a negative one. In middle school you learn the study skills/discipline that you use to be sucessful in the rest of your school years. Once they're in high school it's more a social issue than an academic one.</p> <p>DH didn't grow up with much money &amp; went to an expensive private school. He was the only black student and one of a few students that weren't from a wealthy family. I was a public school teacher, so I know that there are some great public schools. Right now, we have great schools in our area. The middle school and high school are the best though. I've considered putting DS in private school until he reaches middle school but then it might be harder not knowing anyone when he enters public school. The Montessori school here is free, but the waiting list is two years long. We pay about $3400 a year, the benefits are amazing. Ds has some anger issues (we divirced when he was 3, he witnessed some scary things), we just had s meeting with his teacher this past week about it. She told us if he was in public school they would put him in a behavorial class instead of trying to find the root issues and fixing it.
