We did an early induction based on size. It was either go straight for a c-section or at least try for a vaginal birth with an induction. So thats what we did and it was amazing.

I just delivered at 39 weeks exactly last Sunday. It was a repeat Csection - my first was a failed induction turned emergency C-section after my water broke with no contractions at 38w5d. My recovery from that extended ordeal sucked, there was a good chance my second was gonna get stuck the same way as my first bc of my pelvic shape, and we were both totally healthy and measuring fine. My HMO won't schedule before 39 weeks without a medical issue so I got 39 weeks exactly because DH was graduating from business school on my actual due date so I wanted to have as much time to recover as I could and get home before the ceremony. We are 10 days PP and other than jaundice (which there's a family history of)we haven't had any issues.

I had a 4th degree tear with my son (6.5lbs) so the OB who delivered him offered me to schedule a CS at 39 weeks. I was early (36w2d) first time around so I kind of knew that would probably not happened. So I agreed to schedule a CS at 39 weeks after I talked to another OB who said that younger doctors are usually more willing to offer CS if lifelong problems could arise from another tear. Well, I gave birth at 38weeks. It was quick enough that I thought I would deliver in the ambulance. I ended arriving at the hospital and few minutes later, she was here. I tore again (3rd degree, partial) but the recovery was great compared to my first.

I asked (cried!) for an early C-section for a number of reasons (pre-term labor, tonssssss of BH, I was in pain which I was in PT for on a weekly basis and seeing a DO for on a weekly basis, I was sick multiple times a day even on Zofran and my BP was rising - not to dangerous levels, but well above my average) and my OB would not allow me to schedule before full 40 weeks. She only allows early C-sections for truly valid medical reasons, which my situation did not rise to the level for/of.

@Mrs. Lion: I would absolutely have anxiety in your case, too. A breech baby is a very common reason for a doctor to suggest a c-section.

I don't want anyone to think that I think anxiety is not a medical issue. I have been through it myself in other situations and it can be debilitating. I was just mentioning this case because most c-sections you hear about are scheduled close to the end of the pregnancy when something happens that make the doctors suggest it, but this one was scheduled like 4 months in advance and her doctor tried to talk her out of it at first since she had no complications. However, she felt better knowing it was scheduled and out of her hands, in a way. Her anxiety went away after it was scheduled.

@catlady: i had extremy bad anxiety because my baby was breech and i had contractions all day every day from 30 weeks on. I was convinced i wouldnt know i was actually in labor and that we would both die because i couldnt get to the hospital in time. From 36 weeks on i went back and forth with requesting noving my RCS date up becayse it was crippling. That anxiety was very very real, and it can be bad for the baby when mom is that stressed. I made it to 38.5 weeks and my contractions got worse...they said i could wait since i wasnt dilated at all but i had them do the c-section then. I just couldnt take it anymore.

I realize that is different though. I needed a c-section regardless. But man that fear and stress was intense. I cried hysterically when she was born because she was safe and i felt like i could finally breathe for the first time in months.

I had 2 myomectomies and the OB wasn't willing to risk me going into labor so he wanted me to do it at 36 weeks - I cried - I thought it was way too early so no, I wouldn't choose it - we agreed to do an amnio at 36 to check lungs - they were good - and then did the c/s at 37 weeks

Different practice with DD and they let me go to 39 weeks

@PawPrints: Of course. I meant the usual medical reasons. She could have had a vaginal delivery and it would have been perfectly safe (physically) for her and baby. As it turned out, she had major complications from the surgery that took years to resolve.

My C-section was scheduled a week early (at 39 weeks). She was breech and due on Christmas Eve. I was having terrible sciatic pain (I could barely walk), wasn't holding food down, and was having round the clock BH. I'd had at least a dozen ultrasounds, so they had a good idea of her size, and my OB was comfortable with letting me schedule it a week early.

My first was an induction turned c-section (early by about a week). My second was an elective repeat c-section (my OB is supportive of VBAC). My second was scheduled at 38 weeks. I had gestational diabetes and was AMA for both of my pregnancies.

I'm having a c section at 39 weeks.

My son tore my vagina apart and I could have life long horrible issues if it happened again. I'm fine, baby is fine, but we are doing it at 39 weeks and I am extremely grateful to have it as an option. I wish I had one the first time.

I would not.

I know someone who did this (twice actually) because she was having serious anxiety over pregnancy and birth, to the extent that she was convinced she was going to die during childbirth. Her doctor finally decided to offer her elective c-section (I think they may have even used general anesthesia so she wouldn't be awake) and somehow that calmed her down. Neither she nor the baby had actual medical problems, though, it was entirely mental.

DD3 was a scheduled c-section ten days early. I pushed hard to wait longer but my medical team didn't think it was safe for us to go to term. She was still nearly eleven pounds so in the end I'm glad we took her out when we did.

If you were healthy and your baby was healthy, did you have a scheduled c-section to get the baby out early? Why did you choose to take the baby out early and would you do the same again?
