@MrsSRS: Yes, Ive heard Polysporin instead of Neosporin. In fact thats what my dermatologist recommended after a big biopsy/Mohs procedure.

About two weeks ago DS did a face plant on the road. His nose was pretty scraped up. Along with forehead, upper lips and knees.

We just cleaned it up good and left it. He's healed up pretty good but still has a red mark on his nose.

@Alba4: I was also told (by my daughter's swim instructor, not a doctor) that A&D ointment can work wonders on scrapes. She suggested we try it after my daughter really ate it in the parking lot and tore up her knees because she herself had really bad facial scrapes at age 3 from falling out of a bike trailer - no scars I can see on her as an adult, and that's what she says her mom used on her.

@BeachMama: His looks similar, but it covers his entire nose and the bridge.

So I called he after hours line and they said Neosporin. Sounds like there are must be lots of good remedies.

@Alba4: I use/recommend aquaphor for everything! So I would use that just for comfort but I feel like kids tend not to scar because they heal so fast

DD had a nasty scrape on her nose/upper lip after falling face first out of the stroller when she was 2. We were told to put nothing on it. Three years later and there's no scar.

A nurse told me to avoid neosporin unless you're covering the wound. I'd do vitamin e in the morning and lanolin at night.

I've read that Aquaphor works well? Any experience with that? I know it is important not to let it dry out, so Neosporin had been working well so far...

You can also try kelo-cote https://www.amazon.com/Kelo-Cote-Advanced-Formula-Scar-Grams/dp/B003TBYW74

My oldest got a nasty cut from the corner of a drawer on her forehead and I used kelo-cote and mederma (and religiously kept her face shaded/used sunscreen) and you can't see it anymore!

Agree about neosporin, I'm actually one of those people who are allergic to it!

I think sometimes Neosporin can actually make scaring worse. Lots of people have allergic reactions to it that make scaring worse. It also speeds up healing and that can cause scaring too I think.

Poor guy! We've had good luck with the gel inside vitamin e capsules (I pop them with a pin) - just the kind from the vitamin n aisle, spread directly on the scar at night.

My almost 4 year old was running on the playground at school, tripped, and flew over a bike landing on his face. Ouch. He has some gnarly road rash on his nose and lip. I was planning on regular coatings of Neosporin. Other than that, any suggestions or advice. Since it's on his beautiful face, I'd like to prevent scarring. Should I use Mederma once it heals?
