I have a Sakura Bloom silk Ring Sling and freaking LOVE it. They have a natural linen version as well that people seem to love. Theyre pricey, but I have gotten SO much use out of it that it was worth it. There is no padding. Just silk and the ring. Liv is 19 months old and I still use it for a hip carry. I also tried the Moby (not a fan) and have an Ergo, but the ring sling is by far my favorite

@Weagle: yay! Go for it! I was going to get mine from SLP via Pax but you can't pass up a free one lol. I think my shoulder is similar style. Love it!

@Happygal: RS = sing sling, WCRS = wrap conversion ring sling (ring sling made from a woven wrap), WCMT = wrap conversion mei tai (mei tai, like a babyhawk, but made from a woven wrap.

I'm interested in the Maya, too. I have it on my Amazon wishlist right now. It has good reviews there, but I haven't seen it in person yet.

Yay for ring slings and woven carriers. In my opinion they are a marriage made in heaven, expecially for the older baby/toddler. Have a pre-walker or walker who wants "down" a lot, but also likes to be carried for stretches? Ring sling is perfect. Planning to go for a long walk, or do some cooking, or some chores, and want baby close, content, and comfy? A wrap will do that for you. I would recommend Wrapsody baby wraps (either style) for a good, cheaper, entry level wrap. You can see what you like, and I find that the thinner fabric is easier to learn on/more forgiving. I would also recommend Comfy Joey for a ring sling, though with those I don't think you can go too far wrong. The type of fabric and rings will impact the way it "carries" somewhat... the pros for a wrap are versatility, ability to carry for long stretches, the ability to switch up the way you are carrying many times with the same carrier, "personalization" in terms of the way it looks and how you use it, and the selection available, from wovens to stretchies. With ring slings, the quick up and down can't be beat. There are less ways to use them, but you can still be pretty creative. For me personally, I use the woven whenever she will be on long enough to warrant a good wrap job-- when I fold laundry, cook, clean, go somewhere like the zoo. Now that she's almost walking, the ring sling is a go-to for out of the house because she likes to practice walking and then be carried again. For longer trips (i.e. at the airport, at the zoo, etc.) I like to have both handy. When she naps and I have to carry her I prefer the wrap. When she is wide awake and wants to explore, the ring sling works better.

Normally I can puzzle out the acronyms, but I'm unsure what these stand for:
WCRS
RS
WCMT
Can someone help me out?

@anbanan15: I have a SBP RS and love it! Not only is my sling awesome, Jan is super fast and fantastic to work with. I'm actually considering selling my RS and getting a WCRS from her.

I have a Maya RS I got off craigslist that we love. It is so helpful when I want to get stuff done and LO wants to be held. I wore her at the mall out with all of the kidos and it was nice to not worry about the bulky stroller.

I have a WCRS which I love! Since it's made from a woven wrap the rails or unpadded, but it is also super supportive with my toddler! I mainly use it for RUB (ruck under bum...back carry with a RS) and I love it for that. Super quick and easy to get up, even while walking and really comfy! It's also great for nursing or a hip carry (I find capping the shoulders and folding the railed over each other makes it more comfortable and wearing the rings on the back).

I order a custom WCMT that is being made by a WAHM, but I have not received it yet. Mine is going to have a RS waist for ease of use, but the straps will be fully wrap-able. The waist and shoulders are going to have light padding, but I will still be able to cap the shoulders if I want like in the RS. It should be supportive enough to use until we are no longer xomfortable wearing since it is made from a woven. I will also be able to use it sooner with any future babies by rolling the waist and not have to wait to use the Ergo. The benefit of a custom MT is that you can get it made with how much or less padding you want or what extra features (hood, legs/arms out padding, etc). The down side is the price :( I worked my buns off to pay for this thing lol so DS better like it!

My WCRS and WCMT are coming from Earthy Bliss. I think her WCRS are around $80 (I won mine so not sure)? She does now carry some instock WCMT that are made using her specifications by Lenny Lamb and are cheaper. You can get them customized on the hood but I'm not sure how muchthat costs. Down side is the padding etc is "as is" with however she designed them. I've heard AMAZING things about Sleeping Baby Productions (SBP) RS and you can get a wrap scrap from Paxbaby.com and have it slingified by SBP all from ordering at Pax, which may save you a little since you don't have to buy the entire wrap.

Our local babywearing instructor recommended the Comfy Joey ring sling. We have yet to use it but we've tested a bunch of them and it seems sturdy, comfortble and convenient. It's linen, btw.

I have an Ergo with infant insert and a Moby wrap. I like them both, though I prefer the Moby because I find it more comfortable. I also like the Ergo, and find it generally comfortable, but the waste strap rides up in the back no matter how tight/loose I make it (the front stays put, I think it's just due to my body shape). I also have a ring sling I got on clearance someplace called a SlingEzee, but I don't really like it. It's got too much padding for me (the rails on either side are fully padded).

I've heard great things about woven wraps and some other ring slings, but have never tried them. Can you give me your thoughts? Pros/cons? They're quite expensive, and I wouldn't want to buy one if I wasn't going to use it, but I really like wearing DS and am intrigued.
