I hate it when people make comments about babies like that. So annoying. Babies SHOULD be chubby.

I think it is a sad statement about our society that people are trying to put the overweight label on infants. Come on, chubby is normal in the little ones, do they expect that babies all be starved so that you can see ribs and cheekbones?

At 6 months its ok to be chubby.. if your doctor isnt concered that the baby is overweight then I would just ignore those comments

My LO has always been 25th percentile weight and my parents always comment that her thighs are chunky. She is only 19 months old! It drives me up the wall.

Yeah, we get that too, and our LO is only 50th percentile for weight, despite being 75th for height. So actually, he's really not chunky at all...

People are ridiculous... I hate weight comments. My daughter has always been on the other end of things at 95th percentile in height and below 50th for weight. People were always telling me she was too skinny and I needed to feed her more... she ate just fine and was perfectly healthy! I was actually sad that she never had those cute little chubs when she was little lol.

Babies are supposed to be chunky! I have a friend who very seriously told me she was worried about her eight pound one month old becoming obese because she had chubby cheeks. Of course your baby has chubby cheeks, did you expect cheek bones?

Don't worry what everyone else says, as long as the doctor says she's healthy.

My lo is 95% for weight and 79% for height ... so we hear that a lot too.

@Thehistoryofus: Her first few months I think people did mean it as a compliment. I'm pretty skinny so a lot of comments were saying they were impressed I could put weight on her since I don't seem to keep on weight. Now though the comments surrounding the solid/chunky are more like, do you think she eats too much, not from everyone, but more my husbands side of the family.

charlie was a chubby baby (80-90% for weight, 50% for height). But they lose all that chub once they start walking. When I look back at his baby pictures, I can't imagine that he was ever that chubby!

chubby at 6 months is a good thing! :)

Yea based on those percentiles she sounds totally within normal range.

Some people think that calling a baby "chunky/solid" is actually a compliment meaning the baby looks healthy.

Over thanksgiving we got a lot of these comments from friends and family about our 6 month old. The thing is she's not. She's about 89th percentile for height and only 60th for weight. So when I respond wiht those numbers the most common response is . . . 'kids today are just overweight, you can't go by those averages'. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....................................................
