@Reese: Looks like you're considering going! I think that's great. I was going to say that I would go, I am not a football fan, but there's something about watching the game live that makes it more interesting than watching it on TV, if that makes sense. I've been to a ton of sports games that I never watch on TV and I have always had fun.

I didn't read the other responses... but just wanted to let you know that we travelled from Los Angeles to Boston when my son was 4 weeks old, from Los Angeles to Connecticut when my son was 8 weeks old, and from LA to San Francisco when my son was 14 weeks old, and each time was EASY. Traveling with a baby isn't hard. Here are my tips:

- If you have a baby carrier, put the baby in that to get through security. At least in the U.S., you don't have to take them out of the carrier to get through security.
- If you bring a stroller/carseat, it's MUCH easier if you check it with your luggage. I don't have a stroller, but we checked our carseat when we went to Connecticut and it was super simple. They put it in a plastic bag so it doesn't get dirty.
- Check all of your luggage except a diaper bag. Makes getting around the airport MUCH easier!
- Feed the baby at take off and landing if they get upset. My son didn't mind take off or landing, so I only fed him when he was hungry on the flight.
- Changing diapers on a plane: This depends on your comfort level, but I brought a changing pad and just changed him on the tray tables lol...
- Have fun!

I don't know if I'd bring a baby to a game, mostly because I wouldn't enjoy myself as much lol... If you do, just get noise canceling headphones.

I would travel but probably not go to the sports games lol. You should be able to check the stroller and car seat without any issue. Do you know what airline you will be flying? We flew delta for our last trip and we didn't bother putting our car seat or stroller in a case and they arrived to our destination just fine. (We gate checked the stroller). In hindsight, I would buy some kind of cover or case for your items if you can as our stroller's canopy ended up not making the trip home. Delta however was very nice and accommodating and sent us a check for more money than it was to replace the part!

At 3 months I would think your LO would just sleep through most of the flight and should travel much easier than an older baby. To be honest I wish I would have taken advantage of DS days when he was littler and traveled more instead of waiting until he was older as now he can't sit still!

@Reese: Honestly I think the NHL game would be full of more drunks than the football game! The Cowboy stadium is incredible, worth visiting even if not a sports fan. You can walk around and visit the shops with LO. You can gate check a car seat and stroller (I would take both for a trip like this)

At 3 months, I'm on the fence about what you would do. If it was to Houston, I'd say definitely go, but since you're going to Dallas.... :-P

In all seriousness, I think it would be a stressful trip, but it would be so nice to go! You can wear your baby in a Moby while you're at the NFL or NHL game, and quite honestly, they'll probably sleep through the whole thing because of the noise.

@Reese: there will be crowds at both games, but at least in my experience NHL tends to be a rowdier crowd. the stadium is really awesome itd be worth a tour if you don't go to the game.

I don't think it's worth the hassle for that long traveling for a short trip. If you stayed for 5-6 days, then it might be worth it but I know I was not ready to travel like that when my kids were 3 months old. Too little sleep, ha.

As for air travel, we have gate checked our stroller on all 8 flights we have taken the kids on and it's been returned to us broken 3 times :bummed: Airlines are definitely not required to cover it and no one did anything more than shrug when we complained. We always checked the infant seats when we traveled with them as well but no issues there. We never bought an extra seat for our kids.

I would go. We took my son to England at 4 months and it was great. Babies are generally easy to travel with at that age because they sleep so much and don't do much else (night and day from when we took him at 16 months and he just wanted to run up and down the plane aisles!) You don't say what city it is but if you google baby equipment rental + city you should get some options, you could just rent a car seat and stroller and then you wouldn't have to lug them around.

I would go. We took my son at 4 months to England, and he was fine. Babies at that age are great to travel with because they don't want to run around on the plane. You don't say where in Texas it is but I'm assuming a major city - you should look into renting a car seat and stroller! When we were planning a trip to Vegas we looked into bringthebaby.com and travelingbaby.com - you could rent a car seat and just take the stroller, or vice versa, or rent both of them and keep the baby in an infant carrier at the airport.

Personally I'd just stay home since it's not a long trip and just let him have a guys weekend. Esp I don't even care for the sport and to me it's a lot of hassle to rent a car, lug LO around, etc. And if you're solo you have to deal with all the feedings when you're out, etc. And I feel like it would suck for DH to be so excited at a game but all by himself!

I'm not a huge football or hockey fan, but I would totally go. I long for the days of travel when DS was that tiny and so portable. So easy! Now as a toddler, he's way too squirmy and restless to be happy on a plane for very long.

Professional games can actually be a lot of fun, even if you're not a huge fan of the sport. If it was me, I'd far rather go on the trip and have fun and have DH around for support, and do some other stuff while we're there. I'd also probably leave the games about 3/4 of the way through to avoid the huge crowds. I wouldn't be thrilled to spend 3 days home alone with a baby while DH was away on a fun getaway without me.

I would totally go. You can bring LO to both games as long as you wear him. He'll probably just sleep right through the game. I would not worry about the flights as babies tend to just sleep on planes - they're giant vibrating white noise machines.
The carseat you can keep on you until you board the plane then you are either lucky and there is a spare seat or gate check it. You should bring a bag though. As for your stroller, you'll have to check with the airline but most airlines cover damaged strollers. I've flown with two of our three strollers multiple times and never had issues with them getting broken etc. I do usually put them in a plain travel bag though. And our big stroller we've checked as bulky luggage before (at no cost) that way it was handled with extra care.

Personally, I'd stay home but more because I wouldn't be interested in that particular trip than because I'd be nervous about the travel. Also, I just wasn't mentally ready to do anything big until DD was a bit older than 3 months -- it was hard to get into a good routine and feel like I had things sort of together again, so I know I wouldn't have had fun if we took a trip. It was just better for me to be a homebody for awhile. BUT obviously these reasons aren't necessarily applicable to you! If you feel up to it and think it would be fun, the logistics of travel with a baby really aren't that bad, especially when they're not yet mobile and opinionated!

@Reese: We took our ebf 3 month old on a trip from Toronto to Buffalo and Detroit to do a NHL and NFL game watching tour. It was super easy to do, and fun. The NFL game was fine too even with the craziness. You would be wise to bring ear protection, but I didn't even know ear protection existed and the noise didn't bother the baby at all. You do need a passport to fly to the US - you need just a birth certificate when you're driving. We just cab in American cities, or take transit. Travelling with young EBF babies is much easier than travelling with toddlers and preschoolers, so I would take the opportunity to do it.

@shellio: thank you SO much for such a detailed and informative response. You hit the nail on the head. It's that I'm not THAT excited about the activities (mostly the NFL game) and I'm unsure I would even go with LO. It's not traveling that really makes me nervous but whether it's worth it for such a short trip. We are planning a beach getaway when LO is 9 months. At least that will be 7-10 days of travel, not 2-3.

@Astro Bee: Thanks for the response! I am really excited to travel with LO! Like I said above we are planning a trip when he is 9months. I'm just wondering if doing all of this logistically is worth it for 2-3 days and an NFL game I may not go to. DH is through the moon excited and I'm like.. Hrmmmm. I know he would have much more fun with a friend.

@Meowkers: LO is BF. I doubt I could build enough of a stash in time to cover 3 days of feeding. The idea of a getaway of just the 2 of us sounds delightful though!

Any way you can leave LO with grandparents for a few days while you and hubby enjoy your mini getaway?

@Reese: You should totally go! Shortly after LO was born, we found out that DH would be going to New Zealand for work when LO would be 2 1/2 months old. We've never been, and as I had loads of air miles, and LO would be travelling as a lap infant, we decided to go for it. DH would go, and we would join him after his week of business was done. We stayed 9 days together.

We got LO's passport done when he was about 5 weeks, and had it back within 7 days (we live in Ontario, as well, and it's best if you can go to a passport office, instead of mailing it). We checked with his paediatrician, and she said it would be fine, as he would already have his 2 month vaccines done.

We rented a seat from a baby store (due to local regulations), brought the Mountain Buggy Nano stroller (bc it folded easily and was light), as well as our Beco carrier. We used both depending on the activity. You may be fine with just a carrier, but it is free to gate check both your stroller and car seat. I have a cover for both to keep them clean, but have seen people leave theirs without anything, or just a clear garbage bag. The bonus to gate-checking is that many airlines will allow you to bring the car seat on board for LO to have their own seat, if the flight is not sold out.

With your LO being breastfed, travel is so easy. And take-offs and landings, which are difficult for older children due to pressure changes, are made easier if you can feed during that time - although, for safety's sake, you should hold LO in the burping position for initial take-off and touchdown, as directed.

If you are worried about loud noises at the games, you might try out noise reducing earmuffs for infants:
http://usa.babybanz.com/BanZ-Ear-Muffs-Infant-earBanZ-Hearing-Protection-p/earmuffs-baby.htm

If you have any questions about the logistics of travel with an infant, feel free to message me. My LO is just over 4 months old and he has been on 13 flts so far! And most of those were without DH or anyone else along to help.

Sorry for the novel, but I encourage all my new mom friends to get out and travel if they have the opportunity. It's a great way for you and DH to bond, too.
