It's really funny, because every other year my other BIL/SIL travel to this BIL's house (does that make sense??) for Christmas, and they have two boys the same age, and the boys just accept that they'll get some gifts from family on Christmas Day but that their gifts from Santa will be waiting at their house when they get back. Presumably so they don't have to worry about trying to travel with the bigger stuff (especially with two increasingly keen kids) or ship it. Doesn't seem to bother the boys much, they still get gifts with the other boys, even if it's not as much. But I can understand where my other SIL is coming from. There is a ton of Christmas morning excitement in their home, and I'm not sure it would be duplicated in a hotel room. The staff is usually awesome and most are smitten with the kids. It is always easy to get a plate of carrots or celery and dip before a meal etc. There are often out of the way places to take the kids to burn off some steam.
