@lioneyes: We just moved 8 hours away to an entirely different state and I'm 14.5 weeks. It was majorly stressful to find a new OB using only the internet but I'm really happy with my decision and even though I haven't met my new doc yet i'm excited to start care with her.

I would wait til you get your BFP and then find a doc nearby to where you are now and then switch docs when you move. I just used a family practice doc who also did OB on the side since we knew we were moving, not ideal but then again it was only for a few months.

Personally, I went once at 4 weeks to confirm with a blood test, then saw him again at 8 weeks and 12 weeks for a total of three appointments. If you're moving within a few months, most of you pregnancy will be with your new OB anyway.

@lioneyes: It's impossible to know how often you'll go at first - it depends how many issues you have. If it's none, you won't go very often. I think it's just a judgement call - what feels right to you! We thought we were going to move in the middle of my pregnancy, and I went with a local OB to start. We ended up not moving though.

You don't go often in those first four months. Some OBs will see you when you get a BFP to do a dating ultrasound, but my practice wouldn't even schedule initial appt until I was at least 10 weeks, but preferably 12 weeks (unless history of MC).

After that initial appt, you are seen only once a month until 30 weeks, when you are seen every other week, then weekly at 35 weeks.
That was how my practice was, anyway.

If you wish to establish care I think that would be the best idea- since you'll be moving there anyway. You could even wait to do the initial too.

My sister switched practices as late as 32 weeks!

we moved about 5 months into my pregnancy. i don't remember how many appointments there were during that time, but enough so that i'd say it's worth having a doctor nearby and then switching when the time comes. it's pretty common to switch doctors.

We are TTC and also planning a move to a new city, less than 2 hours away from where we live now. I have an OB/Gyn in the city we are moving to, and I would like to use her as my doc once I get pregnant.

Should I find a doctor in my current city for the few months until we move? Even if I get pregnant this cycle, I will only be 4 months at the time of the move, and it's not that hard traveling to see the doctor. But DH has to take off work for appointments, so I want to know,
-How often will I go to the doctor in the first 4 months?
-Has anyone moved and switched doctors during a pregnancy?
-Do you think it's a bad idea to be under the care of a doctor 2 hours away, and if so, why?
