If it's a daily thing, I don't think it's a big deal to leave a kind note (and maybe a $5 starbucks card to show goodwill? and ensure you don't make them angry!)

@Applesandbananas: I've only used the seat belt with the car seat itself, not the base. Middle might be most ideal but it's just not the easiest for us to reach and also prevents us from putting the dog's cage in the back seat, which is how we travel with him. Oh well, not a big deal!

@LindsayInNY: you don't leave her seat or base installed? When LO was in the infant bucket, we installed his base with the seat belt and left it installed. It took a little longer for the install but we didn't uninstall that often! And we never uninstall the convertible!

@Applesandbananas: I know it's safe but using the seat belt is way more labor intensive than Latch. We use it when we put her car seat in another car or are traveling but I can't imagine having to do it daily.

@LindsayInNY: the seat belt is just as safe as LATCH and actually recommended once the child is greater than 40lbs, so don't let that stop you!

P.S. People who drive BMWs can still be assholes who would key a car of someone who left a note calling them a shitty parker... Not that that's how you'd phrase it, but that might be how they take it!

@Mrs.KMM: They don't have any car seats. We've been trying to park more towards the left to try and give us a little more space.

@wheres_c: We park on the street as well so behind the driver's side would be opening her into traffic. That's why it's behind the passenger's seat.

@Applesandbananas: @Andrea: @Autumnmama79: The center doesn't have Latch so the car seat would have to be put in with the seat belt. Hence why it's not there. And we're not really in a keying car area... We park between two BMWs and have no idea who either of them are or where they live.

@gingerbebe: I really like that wording!! I'm going to definitely steal that if we go that route... Thanks! :)

@PurplePumps: Now that you mention it... I leave before them and come home after them. So there's a good chance they're unaware that another car parks there and is frequently used. That's probably a big part of it.

@HabesBabe: We have a car on the other side too but have been trying to hug that line a bit more. They don't have any kids so I think they're just bad parkers and not doing it for any particular reason.

I wouldn't leave a note, and would just deal with it. Maybe they have a child in a car seat, too, or have some need to give extra space to the passenger side, etc. Or maybe they're just not the best parkers. As long as they are in the lines (no matter how much to one side or the other), they're not doing anything wrong.

I would try backing in or parking more towards the left of your spot (IF you don't have another car on that side).

I think a nice note is just fine. They may not even realize they are doing it or that they are being a pain. My parents had an issue with someone parking their car right in front of their house for weeks at a time. This was especially annoying in the winter when my parents would shovel out their spot, then this guy would just leave his car there, and he didn't even live on that street! He lived two blocks away!! It's a dead end street in a suburb so parking is not normally an issue. I told my bother to just leave a nice note and ask if they could park it further back on the street (everyone else on the street has a driveway so we're the only one that NEED the space) if he was just gonna leave his car there for weeks at a time. Sure enough, next time he came to park, he was back a few spots.

@Applesandbananas: @Autumnmama79: not all cars can do a center install! I had our infant seat installed in the center and then had it checked by a pro who said our car couldn't have a seat there because of the middle part that could fold down. So not always an option!

I would totally leave a note! I don't have time to track down who the offender is and you can always leave a nicely worded note that's like "Hi neighbor! We were just wondering if you could help us out by parking your car a tiny bit over to the other side? We have to open our doors a little wider than usual to get our baby in and out of her carseat and we are always so paranoid that we are going to scratch your door! Thank you in advance for your assistance, we REALLY appreciate it!" Hell, leave a $10 Starbucks gift card while you're at it.

Agree with above poster; people are crazy  I recently got yelled at a Target parking lot b/c I too, had to open the car door to get DD in, and my door was touching her car. There was no mark, no nothing, and she was yelling at me!

I wouldn't mind getting a note if it was friendly and polite - something saying you know the spaces are tight but if it's at all possible for them to park a little more towards the other side of their spot, explain that you're trying to get a carseat in and out. They may not be a bad parker so much as they're just not worried about it because they figure you have enough space to open the door but if you explain the situation they might be willing to take a little more care.

I thought having baby in the center was the safest, this is what we do and it doesn't matter which side to get him out. I wouldn't leave a note unless you want to risk your car getting keyed.

I wouldn't leave a note especially if they are technically in their space. Chances are the person knows they suck at parking anyway.

Now that I'm getting DD in and out of the passengers side, I always park more towards the left/drivers side of parking spaces (instead of centered) while still staying between the lines. Maybe they do the same thing for child removal? Or can you shift further left in your space to give you more room? Honestly, if they are parking between the lines in their assigned space, I don't personally feel like there is much you can do on their end.

@T.H.O.U.: More towards my spot. They are tight spots but they tend to hug the line and/or park crooked. Problem is, I don't know who they are or where they live. You just have to live in the Village to pay for an assigned parking spot.

We have an assigned outdoor parking spot in our town. The car on our right changes. I'm guessing it's the same family with multiple cars that sometimes park there and sometimes elsewhere. It's either a sedan or an SUV. We also have a SUV. I don't know if this just started or rather got worse and therefore more noticeable... But the car is a really terrible parker. I wouldn't care if it was on the driver side but it's the passenger side where I have to take DD in and out of the car seat every day. The car usually leaves after me and is home before me so they're usually already parked when I get home. Is there a nice way to leave a note asking them to be mindful of it? I don't want to hit their car but sometimes I can't even open the door to that first "stop" point, it's that bad. I don't want a passive aggressive note, just a nice friendly one mentioning I need a little better access to the passenger side? Am I nuts? Is there nothing to do or if so, what/how?
