@Mrs. J: I'm a straight-forward person, but also a person who doesn't like to make things awkward, so my approach would be:
I'd come down to the office if called over the PA, and just look at the person who called me down and say, "hey guy, it's pronounced ______________, not _________."

I've corrected my boss before. He was misspelling my first name in emails so finally I just wrote back to him: "I spell my name ___ :)" He continued to make the mistake a couple more times but then stopped one day randomly so I don't know if my email helped or not lol.

I think it's best to say something but keep it lighthearted. You could say to them "My kids are confused because I taught them to pronounce my last name this way but it is different when I'm called over the PA. This is how I pronounce my name" And just give your best kind smile.

@Mrs. J: I knew my married name would be difficult to pronounce so I made a sign with "Mrs. So & So" = "Mrs. So & So Pronounced Phonetically" on it and stuck it on the front of my desk. It really helped.

I have a complicated maiden name and an easy married name ( Swiss German) but it sounds like it looks.

I had a lifetime of my name being mispronounced, I never correct any one.

What grade do you teach? If its young ones you can frame the discussion on being consistent with them and not confusing them.

Another way is to try to correct them as casually as possible, keeping a lighthearted and friendly tone. Definitely don't correct them in front of others.

I have had this problem! My maiden name was apparently a more American pronunciation of a traditional Irish name. My former principal was Irish and pronounced it the traditional Irish way, which I'd never heard of before. I never said anything. If it's really driving you crazy you could approach them about it, but personally it wasn't worth it to me.

Ok bees, what would you do? I am on my 4th full year of teaching, and I have been married for three of those. My last name can be a little tricky to pronounce (Swiss-French), but once you get it, it makes sense. My principal and one of the deans have mispronounced my name since I got married, and it's stuck, despite me teaching everyone how to say it. The kids get how to say it, so it becomes annoying when they say it wrongly over the PA or in front of large groups.

At this point, is it too late to get them to say it correctly? How do I approach it? It just sounds so ugly the way they say it!!
