I would have had to do the same--take her and try again later, and risk a poop accident. I'm a teacher/librarian and I have a class 1st period and I can't just be late. You tend to get fired when you have unattended children in the classroom, haha.

@Cherrybee: this reminds me of a few weeks ago when I was at an airport bathroom. I could hear a mom kindly but urgently urging on her daughter to poop cause their flight was going to be leaving soon. I was working that flight, and I so wanted to let them know the flight wouldn't be going anywhere as long as I was in that bathroom, but I thought it might be creepy for me to talk to them through the stall wall. I felt so bad for the kid!

We're not toilet training but without fail my son does a huge poop in his diaper literally as we leave the house. I've tried waking him up earlier, waiting to leave the house, feeding him breakfast later or earlier, but its like he has to cross the threshold of our house and see our car and his bowels go HEY! I'm sure when we start toilet training it will be a nightmare. Which is why he'll be in diapers til college.

I don't think you did anything wrong at all, though I completely understand how hard it must have been to see. Maybe try giving her some pear & prune puree every night and see if that helps to move things along?

Poor thing! I would feel bad too, but if you gotta get to work then you gotta get to work. Tough situation. Good thing she eventually got it out!

I wouldn't feel bad about it. I'd be more concerned about the constipation itself.

it depends on so many factors (your office policies, the stage of potty training, etc.), and i don't think you should feel bad.

Is she potty trained? I wouldn't feel baed unless she was trying to poop on the potty and then subsequently had a poop accident. But even then, not your fault!! T always decides he has to go right before we need to leave the house too. It's hard not to get annoyed!

I've been late to work because of my daughter's bowel movements. I feel like in the early stages of potty training, the last thing I want to do is scare her away from pooping.

Well, if my son doesn't go when he needs to go, he holds it in, it goes back up and then we have a whole host of additional issues to deal with, so I try as best as I can to be patient and let him do what he needs to do.

@Adira: We are potty training and she went #2 in the potty yesterday for the first time. She has some poop anxiety - she cant so it if someone is looking at her, prefers to hide somewhere and gets upset if she's interrupted- so I suspect she held it in yesterday, perhaps mid way through, and caused herself to be a bit blocked up. My MIL said it was an enormous poop today.

Prune juice?

I do the same too. We've been late too many times bc she needs to poo right before we walk out the door.

This happened to me this morning and I'm still upset about it.

Just as we were about to leave the house, E decided she needed to poop. Nothing unusual there. But 30 mins later, she was still trying to go. I had no option but to make her stop and put her coat on. She was so upset. She flipped out as I tried to get her into the car seat because she said it hurt her to sit down but what could I do? I was already late for work.

Once we got to my inlaws', she ran off behind the sofa to try again and my MIL said it was another half hour before she finally went.

I know some of this is my own feelings around going back to work after 3 months off, guilt around having to rush her in the mornings etc but I just feel terrible about having to be so cruel.

Would you have done the same?
