If it was a hysterical (like painful cry), go in immediately and pick up/rock back to sleep. Usually it was just a nightmare or something and she'd all back asleep in my arms within minutes.

If it were some low cries/fussing, just watch on the monitor and hope she settled back down. If crying escalated, I always went back in. Mine's an escalator and then it's hard to get back to sleep. Usually the sooner I go in, the quicker and easier it is to get her back to sleep.

If it's an unusual waking time, I would go in if he started crying (not just whining/making noise). My LO is 12.5m and did this two days ago, it was completely out of the norm, I ended up nursing him before he'd calm down (really rare) and his second front tooth had popped out the next morning. Last time it happened, he had puked ALL over and you couldn't tell on the monitor. I would always rather err on the side of going in

At that age, I would let her fuss for a few minutes to see if she would go back to sleep. If she started crying, I would go in and rock her back to sleep.

Let cry fuss for 5-10 mins to see if it escalates. Also stand outside bedroom door and sniff for poo :)

My LO is 4 months, too. If it was fussing I'd probably let her fuss for 10 minutes or so. If she didn't go down or look like she was about to go down in that time I'd probably go in. If she was hysterical I would go in right away.

would you:

-Go and rock back to sleep immediately
-Go check for poopy diaper but if not poopy, then leave again
-Wait until it was a full blown cry to get them and rock back to sleep
-Let him cry/fuss back to sleep on his own
-other suggestions?

(FYI - LO is 4.5 months and we do CIO for the initial falling asleep)
