Car seat. She's 2.5 and it's always been a struggle with the carseat. If we made one exception, she would never want to sit in it again.

I've both left her in the house and put her in the front seat when moving a car from our driveway. Definitely wouldn't leave her in the driveway.

@looch: this. If I put my son in the front seat he would ask to be in the front seat every time. I would have put him in the car seat but half buckled.

ETA: when my son was younger my husband drove from the street into the driveway with my son buckled in the front seat. I was also worried about the neighbours but at the same time, I thought it was kinda cute.

not sure. i would have done either what you did or leave him in the house. my main hesitation about putting him in the front seat while driving (i mean, not really "driving" but just moving) is that i *know* LO would go ballistic on every car ride thereafter because he would be relegated back to the car seat. i don't want to deal with that super tantrum.

@Thenetexan: @looch: Yeah, I can see that being an issue as kids get older - L's probably close to the point where she might start to ask for it again. Luckily she didn't think twice of car seat the next time!

@swedishfish: That's so sad! :( That's what I was worried about, something so bizarre could happen so quickly

@Smurfette: If I tried to leave L in the house she definitely would have thought I was trying to leave her. We're already going through a tricky phase with those issues right now so I didn't want to make it worse :(

@clover: Same, I wouldn't have done it if I was moving to the street.

The whole time we were doing it, I was so worried that some nosy neighbor would call the cops on me though. I don't feel bad for doing it, but there are so many ways to get in trouble for small things. I know the rules are there for good reasons, but I always worry about a stranger seeing something and misinterpreting

@Smurfette: poor thing! O wigged once because I had to walk around the car and past her door to move a shopping cart. she totally thought I was leaving her in the car. her face was all swollen..I felt AWFUL. :(

living where we are, I have left her in the (gated off, baby proofed) living room because we live (and park) on a main road. so it would not have been safe whatsoever. but on a quiet side st, rolling the car a few feet in a driveway I am not sure what I would have done!

Last week at day care, R dropped her sippy cup, it rolled smack in the middle of the car. Luckily a teacher was walking it. So I asked her to hold R's hand while I moved the car. R was crying so hard since she didn't know the teacher and thought I was just leaving her. But I didn't know what else to do. I didn't want to strap her in and move spots without her strapped in since it was a parking lot and other cars there.

I would have done what you did! We park in a garage, and sometimes the car next to us is parked too close to open the back passenger door to get LO in her car seat. Taking an elevator back up to put her in our condo alone isn't an option, and leaving a mobile baby to crawl/walk around a parking garage where other cars are driving is not an option--so I put her in my lap, pull the car out and to the side, then take her over to her seat and buckle her in.
