Can you borrow an infant seat? My SIL is in a similar situation (they're building the storage room), and we both have Britax B-Safes, so they had an extra base already.

Buy a convertible for one car right now. I had to transfer my sleeping baby a lot from the infant seat to our double stroller. (We didn't use an adapter)

How old is your older son? Is he still rear facing? If he's forward facing, I'd buy him a harness to booster seat and use his current convertible for your younger son.

@Adira: you are pumping like 10 times a day, he can suck it up and have his seat moved up.

Or move Xander to FF and behind the driver seat.

@Smurfette: @Anya: @edelweiss: @Rainbow Sprinkles: I didn't even think of this option! Good thinking ladies!

Only problem is that Hubs car is smaller than mine and I think we wanted to upgrade it before we got convertibles. If we got one convertible, it would probably go in my car, simply because my car is larger and has more room. The way Hubs car is setup is that he has the infant seat behind the driver's seat. As soon as he gets to daycare and takes the infant seat out, he puts his seat back to a more comfortable position. A convertible would mean he'd permanently have to have his seat forward and be cramped until we get him a new car. Which means I'd probably put the convertible in mine since it would fit better. And therefore still lose the ability to transfer sleeping baby... gahh.

Do you have any friends who have an infant car seat they aren't using right now? I would offer you ours but it's at dh's grandmas house on the cape! Even if it wasn't the same brand as yours I'd rather do that for now.

agree with @Smurfette:

I would use a convertible in your car and let DH keep the infant seat - that way if he is sleeping in the evening he can just bring in the seat and not wake him

Why do you have to upgrade both to convertibles? I would definitely not buy a new infant seat. I would buy a convertible for your car and keep him in the infant seat in your DH's (or vice versa). Just carry him in from the car instead of bringing the infant seat in with you (or bring the infant seat in but don't leave it there).

I would buy one convertible car seat! Like @smurfette said, for the car you don't use as much when you are all together as a family. Then, when he outgrows his infant seat, you only have one convertible to buy.

i voted to upgrade to convertibles. could your husband drop him off in the convertible, and you could pick up in the infant car seat so that you have transfer-to-house-while-sleeping ability?

If you'd rather spread out the expense of two convertible seats, could you get one now and still use the infant seat in the other car for now and just not bring it into the daycare?

oh man, that sucks! Both of the daycares I've been to have storage space for the infant room car seats, because most parents switch drop off and pick up!

I guess I would get a convertible to save money, but I would NOT be happy about it. Unless I had a trusted friend who had a similar infant car seat that I knew hadn't been in any wrecks, but the odds of that are low.

First I would bitch up a storm to day care. There are so many parents that split duty like this.

Then I would buy one convertible for the car you don't use as much on the weekend. If you take your car when you all go out together as a family, then get the convertible for your DH. Then you can still use the infant seat, carrying him in some place sleeping, etc

We just got our April Newsletter from daycare yesterday and in it is a notice to parents that they can no longer leave their infant car seats at the daycare because they don't have room to store them. My husband does daycare drop-off and I do pick-up. We currently have one infant car seat and two bases. Unless we can get the daycare to grant us an exception, our options are:

- Buy a second infant car seat that Logan will probably only use for 5-6 more months.

- Buy two convertible car seats now and switch Logan to them earlier than we planned. Lose the ability to easily transfer sleeping baby from car to house...

Logan is currently 4 months.
