I believe you can easily get a new pump in the city where you are going..hoping its not a remote place. Just carry the most important extra parts that can easily get broken or lost..

@Pollywog: @Charm54: @Dahlia:
Thank you! We are going to an island in Belize. The voltage is the same as the US (110V), so hypothetically it will work the same. It shouldn't fry the motor like 220V countries in Europe.
I think I will buy a manual just in case.

Yeah if you are in Europe depending on what pump you have you are going to want to buy a voltage converter (they look and feel like a brick). You'll likely need that, not just an outlet adapter. I've known more people that I can count on one hand who have blow their medelas while traveling to Europe. The battery pack probably won't cut it if you EP
I'd have a set of everything (including membranes, those are the first things to disappear and so crucial) and also bring a hand pump.

Where are you going? Make sure wherever you're going has the same voltage as here. I know lots of people that have burnt out their pumps trying to pump in a place with different voltage.

I would probably buy a cheap manual pump as back up rather than an extra set of parts (besides membranes)

When I traveled while EPing I pumped into bags to save cleaning bottles and also used the Medela wipes.

I EPed for 6 months for each girl and never had any parts break so I probably wouldn't pack extra.

Have fun!

Where are you going? What pump do you use? If it is a major city, I'd just bring what you have. If something breaks, it is a problem money can easily solve at a pharmacy. You may not get your dream pump, but you should be able to get one.

I just reread, your infant is with you, correct? In that case I absolutely wouldn't bring anything. With him near you'll still have all of the milk producing hormones even if you have to use an easy to find manual pump

We are traveling abroad right after New Years. I pump (almost) exclusively. I do supplement with formula occasionally so I will definitely bring formula as back-up. DS will be 4 months.

I plan on bringing my pump and everything along with it (Yay to airports having pumping rooms!!!) and keeping my pumping schedule fairly consistent. I only pump 3x/day.

So my question: would you bring an extra set of all of the parts? I don't have extras of everything on hand. I've had to replace tubing once, but I just did free One-Day Amazon Prime. I don't really want to pack all of the extra stuff (let alone pay for it). I'm normally not a worrier, but I just thought what would happen if something broke or was lost.

And then I think what would happen if the pump itself broke...but I'm just not going to go there :silly:
