@littlejoy: FWIW, my son is allergic to a fruit family and the acid that goes along with it and we've known since the first time he ate the fruit.

@charlotte: Ugh, I'm sorry for your experience. I bet that reaction was scary. Our doctor mentioned that some gluten tests won't react unless the kiddo has abstained for a while (and like you experienced, can cause a major reaction when reintroduced). That's scary!

@LBee: Thanks for the advice!! She's a vegan, so we do eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies. It'll be really interesting to see if this kind of reaction increases as we get more fruits in our home with the upcoming warm season.

I would definitely do testing and come up with a plan from there. My son had similar issues but with wheat/ gluten forever and we couldn't quite pinpoint what was going on. He originally did not test positive for an allergy to it, we cut it out of his diet for awhile, added it back and he had a severe reaction. Now his tests show he is very allergic. No matter what the case is with your LO I think good idea to have the doctor involved in the plan and have an epi pen.

My son has a similar allergy and while he was allergy tested they ultimately said the results were fairly pointless (although he tested positive) as he was obviously having a reaction that we needed to eliminate the food. He was allergy tested for a separate severe reaction so they threw this one in for good measure. You could definitely pursue testing but in such a straight forward case I would just eliminate the food and try again in a controlled setting at a later time.

ETA: The main concern would be if you were facing a salicylate allergy, which you would know at this point assuming she eats a varied fruit and vegetable diet.

Could be worth doing food allergy testing, I would think if two are likely present already there could be more and might be helpful to know before something comes up. I'm no expert though my kids only have done testing for indoor/outdoor allergies.

Not sure what our next step should be:

LO had a blueberry fig bar last weekend, and almost immediately had itchy bumps on her face (not hives, more like little pimples). We figured it wa blueberry or gluten, and planned to give her another later in the week to see if the reaction was a coincidence.

Last night, not thinking, I gave her blueberries with dinner. She ate two before declaring she doesn't like them anymore, and within 10 minutes, the bumps on her face were back.

We asked her if her mouth felt itchy (no) or if her stomach hurt (also no). Poop is normal, and the rash fades within a few hours.

Should we be thinking about allergy testing for one allergy? Just cut blueberries out? I would like to confirm that it is in fact the blueberries, but I don't want to approach this by just feeding them to her again.

**ETA: LO is 3. She's been eating blueberries for years. Come to think of it, we picked a bunch of fresh berries last summer, and I feel like the face rash was present. I thought it might be accidental exposure to dairy (she's allergic) at preschool, but now I'm second guessing that.
