@locavore_mama: I asked the agent to look into it so they emailed the resort. Basically none of them see the need to switch, hence our agent will not switch without penalty unless it's a real threat.

I'm stalking TA constantly to see if any new reviews come out. Some recent ones said they do hear some noise during the day. I requested to stay farrrr away from the construction zone; hopefully they will be able to accommodate...

If you switch due you risk losing your money? I assume it's a resort? Do they have another location nearby ?

Email the manager ahead of time. State your celebration and kindly request a better room.

Oops just saw you emailed already. Maybe you can extend the aforementioned suggestion if you didn't already bring it up.

@sunny: We prob would be in our room more. Where we req to stay is away from that area, but room location is obviously not guaranteed.

Sigh, I'm just asking about my options for now b/c we've really been looking fwd to going there, but at the same time, if we paid this much $, I also see why I wouldn't want to risk anything!

Will you be in your room a lot? Will the construction noise impact the pool, beach, etc?

I might be inclined to switch hotels. I can't imagine that they would be doing work at night but they might start early so you might not be able to sleep in.

DH & I are due to go to Mexico last week of March. I've been stalking TA forums just to read reviews, and take note of random things. Apparently construction started up right next door and they're even closing a building that faces the construction so I'm assuming it will be noisy. This is relatively a more expensive trip for us (it's a belated honeymoon plus it'll be DH's bday). I'm concern about the quality of our vacation with this construction stuff going on. Would you stick it out and hope for the best, or look into switching to another hotel for peace of mind? In any case I already emailed to ask about this... There are other options but obviously I don't feel 100% comfortable since I'm the type that likes to research a lot beforehand.
